3 Dec 20 Comment Splended image of Colorado's best features, its Fall colors. Love this image as it brings the sense of solitude along a the road nestled in the forest.

I feel your post-production is spot on with the colors, light and shadows. Very nicely done.

Maybe we'll see one another on the trail some day. I live down in Frederick.

67 Dec 20 Reply I'm going to have to check this one out. I primarily use LR and no PS, so will have to look into Affinity's program. Thanks again Tom. Dec 16th
67 Dec 20 Reply Yes the trees were a little squatty. What you see in the background was the entire scene. Normally from this vantage point you can see the lake and the mountains behind it. Low clouds, snow, and limited visibility beyond the trees. Dec 16th
67 Dec 20 Reply Wow Tom. This is spectacular!! What program are you using? I really like the additional features. It really was a cool scene not capture. Dec 15th
67 Dec 20 Reply Larry,

Thank you for the lesson today. I learned something new which makes total sense as to why this occurs. I will definitely have to read more about how to reduce this as I have a few of my images with the same issues.

I only use sRGB when uploading to the internet and then also utilize the higher sharpening to meet the needs of the screens.

67 Dec 20 Reply Tom, I really like this version and it appears you were able to reduce the "banding" Larry talks about. Dec 9th
67 Dec 20 Reply I understand now. Thanks for that clarification. What was the original size of the file? Dec 9th
67 Dec 20 Comment Welcome back Rich.

Spectacular capture of this Kite in flight. Sharp and tight on the bird. I don't see your settings in the description. Lot of detail in the head and I like how it is tucked in particularly as when it is enlarged, you can see the insect it has.

Beautiful colors and light from the sky to the bird itself. No washout noted. Like Larry's question, what settings do you shoot at? I have played with mulitple settings and it depended on time of day, light, location, and subject.

67 Dec 20 Comment Bud,

First off, Welcome to the group. Great to have you join us and you started off with a wonderful nature photo. This image is pure nature in every sense and it tells the story of a mother's love for her young.

You have a nice Point of View, nearly at eye level with this sow and cubs. I really like how they are laying in the grass and the cubs are resting on her belly. One way this image would be a knockout is if you have the sow looking back at you. Foreground and background are blended well and the bears are sharp have clarity. I do like how the image has its stages (blurred foreground, sharp midground and blurred background). It is a good use of the Rule of Thirds.

I feel your settings are spot on and wonder if your f/stop was dropped down a bit more f/8-f/10, if it wouldn't have been too oversaturated. I assume the sun was behind you. I would have loved to be that close. Lake Clark was just added to my bucket list!

67 Dec 20 Comment Larry,

The image overall is well balanced and although the sun is almost in the center, it really appears to a little rigth of center. Sure, when you add the grid, center it becomes. What I feel elludes this illusion is the fact that the rock formation further out juts into the center point.

There is a lot of distraction with the moving clouds. The ones on the horizon are sharper, but the ones closest are blurred due to the exposure time. I wonder if you had decreased your exp. time to 25 sec or 20 sec, what that outcome would have been. I would concur with your decision to not crop the left side. I feel you definitely would lose your over all meaning of the image.

67 Dec 20 Comment Very nice action shot Jason. I always find it fun to shoot birds in flight and more so when they have a meal in their talons.

You capture motion from L to R and have given the eagle ample room on the right. It may be my monitor, but it also may be your sensor as it appears the eagle is flying into a bunch of sound waves or light rays.

From your description, it appears you were hand holding while shooting this at full zoom of 600 mm. Your f/6.3 is nearly wide open on this lens and at this focal length, everything blurs out. I had one and hated it for that reason. I couldn't go past 400 mm without everything becoming blurry. Tightening up your aperture more to f/11 may have had a little better outcome regarding sharpness.

I do like the light on the leading edge of the wind and fish. Adds a bit of contrast to the blue sky.

67 Dec 20 Comment Stunning shot Michael. I have not been to this area of Alaska and you have now drawn my interest. I definitely feel you have done this justice with increasing your exposure. Foreground to background it flows nicely with multiple layers of texture, light, color.

One thing I notice right off is the clarity of the image from about mid-point to the background (Mountains and sky). The foreground is not as sharp. Compared to your original, this version is less sharp in the foreground which may be a cause of your aperture of f/6.3. I wonder if tightening up to f/8 to f/11 may have given a little more clarity. Even a focused stack would have been pretty cool to see

I like the foreground without the cropped tree which you removed as it shows in the orignal sticking up into the rocky area just over the brush. It appears to highlighted a lot, especially from mid-point to the mountains. The creek/marsh on the left with your verison seems a little washed out and over-exposed. I ended up playing around with it a bit and came up with this. Allowing the light and shadows to compliment one another give the eye and mind the idea of where the light is coming from and the sense that it was a cloudy scene.

I love landscapes because they are so fun to create and manipulate. Could you not shoot a panoramic with your K-1? Multiple frames then stich/merge together with LR or even Microsoft ICE (Image Composition Editor).
