67 Jan 20 Reply Hi Madu,

This is something I learned during one of my CreativeLive classes I purchased and I also have heard it on a one of the podcasts I listen to.

67 Jan 20 Reply Michael,

This is also great. It eliminates the snags under the bridge more and I'll play with the geometric sliders a bit to see if this is something to consider as well. Thanks for the suggestions and adjustments.

67 Jan 20 Reply Hey Mark,

I do like this version as well. I also darkend the rocks under the bridge when I was playing around in LR again with it. I definitely like the tighter shot on this as the water and foreground rocks were really my subject. Thanks for the rendition.

67 Jan 20 Comment Michael, I had posted this from my phone, but it obviously did not post correctly.

I really love this image and more so in B&W, although your original image is stunning as well and I do like the darker effect of it, especially since the skies are grey/blue. As other's have mentioned the B&W version is truly Adamsesque. One of my favorite photographers as well.

The curvature of the tree as is comes out of the rock and then extends to the top is exquisite. Being the side light is coming from the right, any mirroring is detrimental to the image as posted above.

67 Jan 20 Reply I completely hear you regarding the lens. I have to re-calibrate my Tamron 150-600 as I am seeing a bit of focus loss at 500-600mm. Just need to get that done. Regardless, still a great image. Jan 19th
67 Jan 20 Comment Mark, this is a beautiful shot of the ocean and waves. There are a lot of great features and leading lines in this scene. The one major distraction is the tower on the bluff in the background. You could clone that out. Your choice of exposure is beautifully done at 10 sec. I just learned about the 500 rule. Where you take the lens length your are shoot from and divide 500 by it - 500/30 = 16.6 sec. You may have been able to get a bit more softening of the water at 16 sec. Something to play with.. I know I am going to try.

Your foreground is detailed and I love the curved lines from the foreground rock arching to the left and leading the eyes back to the water to the rock with the bird on it. The two rock features in the water in the center have either specific rock croppings or other birds perched right at the top of them. I can feel the water and breeze right now.

I did play with this one a bit. Using LR I created a B&W and did some adjustments with the color profiles and then converted back to color. This decreased the exposure to -0.04, increased contract +7, decreased highlights -10, added shadows +41, added white +10 and decreased blacks -15. I also cropped it down a bit more to 16x9. Would love to hear your thoughts as well.

67 Jan 20 Comment Wow Madu! Getting 2 for 1 is a great capture here. I had posted earlier, but sent from my phone so may not have hit submit.

Magnificient wildlife action shot for sure. I do agree with others regarding motion blur, which I could see if the animals were actually chasing the gazell. Was the vehicle running when you shot this as well? May explain some blur.

Based on your original image, I noticed you cropped out or cloned out the long piece of grass in front of the juvenile cheeta, this too could be a cause of some of the additional blurriness to the juvenile.

67 Jan 20 Comment Fantastic capture Richard. Striking detail and clarity noted through out. Even when I enlarged it on screen, the detail in the webbing and talons were sharp. From the image, it appears you were pretty much at even level with the owl and it can be difficult to elliminate the foreground vegetation. Wondering if you had it zoomed to 500 if this would have help?? Even with the amount of cropping you did, the image is still stunningly sharp. I have heard excellent things about the D800, but not enough to convert from Canon ;). Jan 18th
67 Jan 20 Comment What a magnificant capture Larry. In reading others' comments I don't have much to add this month. I really like the top lighting on the egret which allows it to really stand out against the background. You were definitely able to "fill the frame" with the great detail.

I appreciate the education on how you use shutter roll. I have changed back recently to back button focus as well. I had tried for a while, and switched back to regular AF or MF. Learning some newer techniques from Mark Muench through CreativeLive made me change back.

You have kept with the "mysterious" theme this month as well. I appreciate the left lower side of the water with the hint of reflection of the trees in the water and the leading lines that form the Y from the egret to the reflection. Beautiful capture!

67 Jan 20 Comment Interesting concept here Jason. I feel the crop of the tracks as they lead up to the top box and the crows is a strong leading diagonal line. The black and white is a perfect format for this shot. It brings the crows to the forefront. Jan 14th
67 Jan 20 Comment Larry, It's interesting that you cropped the edge of the bridge out. I definitely like this version. I had this as one of my choices but decided against it to post. In your version, I see you went a little lower removing the snag and empty space under the bridge. This really brings the water to life and the light reflection on the rock in the middle become more prominent.

I've seen others' work with scenes like this and have been drawn to them as well. I had a several shots of this with the bridge being a bit longer along the top of the frame and have played with one that also like.
