67 Nov 19 Reply Thanks much Larry. I will definitely take to heart that this method should be last. I can definitely play a little bit better with this one for sure. Definitely below and hand holding was a bit tougher. Hard to carry the tripod all the time.

I will take a look at the suggestions you offered as see what I can play with as well. Greatly appreciate the ideas.

67 Nov 19 Reply Michael, great suggestions and modifications. I really like the changes. I agree, this is a bit harder to capture when it's in jpeg vs raw. I also wonder if using a radial mask to do this would as effective. Thanks much for your rendering. Nov 11th
67 Nov 19 Reply They were just looky-loo's anyway. Nothing like a Photobomb for a great scene. Nov 10th
67 Nov 19 Comment Wow Larry! Spectacular image as always. I see your dilema with cropping. I don't see anything wrong with cropping out the trees on the right. I think it looks better. Another distracting piece and I don't know if any has mentioned is the other people just above the log on the left side (blue shirt, white hat). Cropping that out, you absolutley lose the defining edge of the left side of the image and the it definitely makes it look "cut off". I played around with the cropping tool to get this specific rendition. I honestly think keeping the trees on the right is also OK, it's just a matter of what you like.

67 Nov 19 Reply I couldn't agree more Mark. I have learned so much in my short time in the group as well. Nov 10th
67 Nov 19 Comment Mark, I think Larry has said it all for me.. LOL...

I am in total Awe of this shot! Colors, composition, light, exposure, angle, point of view are all impecable. I definitely like the vertical aspect which captures the falls and the surround scene perfectly.

I too noticed the tree trunk on the far left and after my eyes saw the pool in the foreground, and then the falls, they went immediately to the trunk. I won't belabor any longer :).

The right side of the image is really nice with the water coming off the rocks and the top right is as crisp as the rest of the scene. I too made a little modification to the shot. I really like the right side as well and cropped just a little off to still include the water coming off the top right edge. I did decrease the lumineance of the rocks next to the water fall slightly allowing for the water to be your focus and not the rocks. They were a little too highlighted.

Beautifully capture!

67 Nov 19 Comment Stunning landscape Madu. Rich colors and contrast with the water, land and sky.

This really deserves more of a panoramic view. I would like to suggest cropping out the shore line altogether just to the water's edge along the bottom and then cropping down the sky to just to the top edge of the clouds. This will really bring in the mountains. The other things that hit me first thing was the horizon being slanted.

I really like the layers you have captured here with the shadows on the mountain side and then the depth with the peaks in the background. The water looks pristine and should be at 14,270 ft. Are you able to drive to this location or was this a hike. We have 58 14,000+ peaks in Colorado and only 2 you can drive to.

Wonderful shot my friend!

67 Nov 19 Comment Thanks Rich. I see what you are saying. It is definitely about the "art of seeing" especially when getting this close to the flower. Nov 10th
67 Nov 19 Reply Hi Madu,

I had gotten down low, even with the flower, the BG is sky. With this lens, f/6.3 is wide open and I was in Aperture priority mode. I really like the Bokah of the sky and the closeness of the flower without truly being a macro shot. I don't know what it would have turn out like if I have used my wide-angle lens, but definitely worth trying in the future.

I thought I would go with something other than landscape this month :). That's why I like combining Landscape, Nature and Wildlife together. I will always have something to shoot.

67 Nov 19 Comment Beautiful capture here Michael. I really like the vertical veiw looking up stream along the river bed. The colors appear a bit more washed out from the original and not as bold. The original is darker and richer in colors and the moss on the rock in the one posted appears a bit washed out, where the original is richer in color. Wondering if they got reversed?

Your foreground is strong with the rocks and moss as the capture point and the point of view really draws they eyes upwards. I just recently learned in one of my Art Wolfe courses, when he shoots forest scenes, he doesn't shoot the sky. So something I am going to have to try as well. Here, the sky is so subtle, I don't feel it is a big deal. I wonder if using an ND filter or polarizer with a bit longer exposure 1/30 may have given you a bit more softness to the water.

67 Nov 19 Comment Wayne,

I really like the composition of this image. I can see why you cropped the bottom out and the right side. with the sidewalk.

I to played with your image a bit and kept it B&W. Looking closer as the object in lower right corner, it is a person, which I have cloned out and add the right side back to image. I also cropped down the sky. Pretty much everything above the tree was dead space and disctracting. The focal is the tree in this image and it will draw your eyes to the mountains as well. In lightroom, kept is monochrome, contrast +21, Highlights -49, shadows +29, whites +36, blacks +27. Effects sliders: texture +34, clarity +23, dehaze +48, vignette -8. I also added two linear gradients to the image both vertical and horizontal. I agree with your decision to keep the temperature as shot. Anything greater really brightens it up.

This is a beautiful shot. Using a tripod may have allowed you to use a lower shutter speed with the ISO of 125 (metadata). It obviously was windy as seen with the leaves/branches of the tree. Your f-stop is wide open allowing for the additional light, but with some loss of clarity, especially hand-held even though the exposure time is 1/1000 sec.

67 Nov 19 Comment Richard,

This is a stunning immage and I love the story you tell about it! Colors are vivid and yet subdued. The mist brings in the subtleness of the morning. It really has nice vertical lines to it and the crop along the edges allows for the eyes to wander up river to the mill. It would have been very nice to see water running the water wheel (if it still works).

I feel your addition of the saturation from the original is spot on and really contrasts the roof line, and frame of the mill against the foreground. Shadowing appears well balanced in the foreground, again drawing the eye up toward the mill.

I also a second image in this, if you were to use the same image and slow the shutter down to soften up the water over the rocks giving in a cotton candy feel or even using an ND filter allowing you to stop down 2-3 more stops. Beautiful image!
