Group Round C/R Comment Date Image
67 Jul 19 Reply I would have had to guess about 2-3 months as well Cheryl. It was definitely a smorgesborg for them with all the salmon trying to swim up river. Jul 16th
67 Jul 19 Reply I've got a couple more Richard, so maybe another round soon. My hope is that in September, I'll see a few more when we head back to Alaska for five days. I have been taking my notes on composition and savoring all the group's comments, plus the information from the Image Analysis class. We had 5 of us in the boat and our guide was filleting the salmon for us. I concur and tripod in a moving boat, is still a moving tripod. High ISO, fast shutter speed. Jul 16th
67 Jul 19 Reply Thank you so much Cheryl. I would definitely say this was truly a wildlife shot. I've included another one which includes the two cubs. This was the best of three that I capture succinctly as they were all coming down the trail out of the forest. Jul 15th
67 Jul 19 Comment Stunningly Gorgeous Larry. Beautiful capture for sure! From the original you mentioned you used a CPF and 10 stop ND filter, which ultimately makes the photo a little darker. It appears you may have added some increase in highlights or exposure to "brighten" it up a bit??

There is such vivid detail in every aspect of the photo, it does make you feel like you're there. How much room do have at the top? It feels a bit pinched off, so wondering if there is any more at the top to give a better sense of height of the falls.

67 Jul 19 Comment Beautifully captured Bush Chat. What caught my eye immediately was the Catch Light in the eye. That definitely makes a great composition. Soft composed background is well balanced and allows the bird to spot on focused. Well balanced and slightly offset to the right with your cropping. I agree with Cheryl, that it would be nice to see just a hint of head turn, but then it might loose the "Catch Light".

Stunning work Madhu.

67 Jul 19 Comment Wayne, you have captured one of my favorite National Parks for sure. Your composition is really detailed with about 1/3 foreground and 2/3 mountains and sky. Nicely composed. Keeping with the feedback from Larry and Michael, cropping out the right side and eliminating the washed out sky, will bring the viewer's eye to the center and the Tetons. The backlighting on the brush in the FG is perfect and can still be dramatic even without the "washout". I personally like a good Cir. Polarizing filter as well, and definitely like Larry's suggestion regarding a ND filter. Jul 15th
67 Jul 19 Comment Beautiful coloration and lighting on this orchid. The background is soft with nice Bokah, allowing for the enhacement of the flower and primarily the middle of the orchid. The body is nicely focused and a higher f/stop may have decreased the blur of the petals. I presume you were shooting this hand-held and I wonder if you had a tripod and lowered the ISO and incresead the f/stop to f/8-f/11, it may have been a bit more focused and it may have allowed you to get a bit closer. I have struggled with macro, especially with telephoto lenses.
I too will wait for the "knock my socks off" photo for August.

67 Jul 19 Reply Michael, thank you! I would have defintely liked to have been using a tripod. Although the cove was relatively calm, just the moving around in the boat caused some rocking. As both you and Larry mentioned, definitely more space at the top would have been nice and I concur. I did reveiw this image again and since I did not crop it, I'm stuck with the tightness of the space. Although I do have a "couple extra" photos I can go back and review of these. Jul 13th
67 Jul 19 Reply Larry, I took your suggestion and cropped out the twigs on the right and I definitely like that better. Less distracting. Something I am learning in the Image Analysis course. I haven't used photoshop much, so cropping will have to be choice for now. Definitely in this photo, I would have liked to have had more space and had I zoomed out a bit (more toward 450-400), that could have opened up the top of the photo more as well.

Since I am going back again this year, we'll see what I can come up with.

67 Jul 19 Comment Cheryl, I too have never seen a Glossy Ibis. Colors are beautiful and from the lighting, it appears that this was likely late afternoon, early evening. From the original, I see you did crop the photo to take out the dead space on the left, which appeared fairly washed out, which really allowed for better detail of the Ibis.

The light on the back of the next appears to be a little washed out and harsh, so I wonder if adjusting the highlights or clarity down a bit, may help with this. Overall, gorgeous bird and shot. The greens and shadows definitely allow the subject to standout.
