Hi LuAnn - I love the colour version of this but the black and white has the advantage of pulling out all those details in the leaves. I always think of the patterns on a leaf like the roads and subdivisions in a city, so I enjoy seeing them.
I like a dark background so am responding to that, but I wonder if the stem is a bit bright?
Overall its very soft in tones and there is potential for a little highlighting on the top leaf to further bring it forward if you like that.
warm regards, Julie |

I respond warmly to this because it isn't staged, you have captured a spontaneous moment between these two showing character and connection. Also, it leaves me curious about what they might be discussing and I adore his expressive hand movements.
Yes, I think I like it a little lighter as Oliver has done it. I also agree with Gary that I might also have cropped it in further, but my screen distorts it so I can't give an example. Its lovely either way Hattie. |

There is a lot to like here. I agree you have captured the story of the boy filled with determination at the jousting. There is a great tonal range, also depth of field contributes well. There is a great range of textures, from the flat looking matte texture of the helmet, to the engravings on the jousting stick, to the support around his wrist, the hairs on his arms and the texture of his t-shirt. Good job. I'm sorry I can't think of anything to improve this image. And yes that sharpening is incredible - wow. |

That was also my thought when I saw this image. It has impact and punch and I like that but I didn't notice the man until I read the title, which was after. I like the one with him cropped out. The reflection of the tree is gorgeous and the tonal range too. I respond to the dark darks, and also the subject matter of the tree reflecting on the buildings and therefore taking more space than it actually does - that's kind of cool aye? People see more nature than is there. Love the perspective looking up with all those leading lines. |
