I like your version - it solves the background problem nicely and it shows the strongest part of the image. I was trying to show the whole flower and use the colors to enhance the separation of the greys. I didn't see the other possibilities |

The seeds look really nice - sharp with nice light on them. Blurring the back with a shallow DOF worked well. I do find the flower in the left lower corner distracting and I would suggest cropping it out. Overall, I agree that your final image is much better than the original. |

I agree that it looks like a negative. Both blurring and darkening the background would have improved the background. Partly, this image was an experiment in using the color sliders in SEP3 to try to separate the colors. But it is hard to equal the impact of the color version. Thanks for your comments. |

Well, I spent some time on this and your "rushed job" is better. I was trying to get enough contrast to grab the viewer's eye, to get some attention, as black and white images of flowers are usually not as pleasing as the color versions. I did darken the background a little - but I agree that more would be better.
