The strength of this image comes from the tension between the gray engine, the black smoke, and the white steam. I think that the right side is too busy and detracts from the image. You could try cropping off on the right and at the bottom - it will get you closer to your subject.

If I hadn't read your note I don't think I would have known what exactly I was looking at. The sky is great but the sunken barges are hard to see in the darkness. After I read your note and re-examined the image it starts to make much more sense and I can appreciate the light and the reflections, the tones, and the textures. |

Very nice image! Your conversion to B&W is well done - her hair and skin look great. I agree that her forehead and nose could be improved by decreasing the shiny areas. Having her dress out of the picture really increases the impact of the image - I just assumed she was (mostly) naked before I read your notes.

Wonderful image! The feeling of motion is very strong and the car and driver are tack sharp. The monotone version is much better than the original. Since we usually move our eyes left to right on the page I flipped your image to see how that would look. To me, it feels as if now the car is going backward! Maybe it's because of the numbers.
Anyhow, your image is great - well done! |
