I took a number of shots of the ferns when I was in the Hoh Rainforest last October. It was raining then too! The day I was there the sky was a uniform white so that the light seemed to fall down like rain. The light in your image seems harsh and uneven. The composition is excellent, as are the texture, tones, and focus. I would encourage you to return and try again when the light is better. |

There's a lot of energy here that you have captured. The position of his body and your point of view are great. In the color image the light seems to come from both behind (strong) and in front (not so strong) of the subject, but the B&W version is lit only from behind. I prefer the lighting in the color version, but overall I prefer the B&W version. You always seem to post really interesting, intriguing images! |

Technically this is an excellent image, as the other commenters have noted. However, for me, it lacks any emotional impact. I'm not sure if that is important to you, or if other people have a different reaction to the image. What do you think? I would be interested to learn what the other members think in general - how important is emotion? |

I agree with the suggestion to crop the top or bottom and I would crop some of the bridge to put more emphasis on the buildings. I think the removal of the lens flare improves the image greatly. Overall, it is a beautiful moody image with great emotional impact. |

The image invokes a strong emotional response. The tones are excellent and the streetlights add to the mood. I wonder if you had stood over the double stripe, so that the left and right sides were balanced, if the image would have been better or not. Maybe the tension created by the imbalance is better. Either way, this is a very interesting image. |
