This image is wonderful, striking, schizophrenic, disturbing - I can't decide which. The geography seems as if it has been manipulated, the foreground seems too steep. The dunes in the foreground appear to be a tableau of naked bodies, as Dave commented, and everytime I look they 'jump' so that I can't get a steady quiet view of them. The animal tracks are both interesting and distracting. Your conversion to b/w is very well done but the frame adds to the 'surreal' impression. Maybe I'm just a dirty old man but this looks to me to be much more than a simple landscape.
The color version looks like a landscape and is easier to view but much less interesting.
If I saw this image on the wall in a gallery it is the one I would go to first and spend the most time with.

The color version is very warm and inviting and makes more of an emotional impact on me, while the b/w version is more about the detail. Technically, the b/w is excellent but I don't get the emotion impact. I think it is a matter of taste and of what you are going to do with the image. Even if you hang a print (color or b/w) on a wall it would depend on what wall, what else is on the wall, and so on. Good work! |

Wonderful! This is what a great monochrome of the Santa Fe area should be. The light, the texture, the tones, the composition - what a great impact it all makes. |

The light is beautiful in this image, the tones are very nice, and the bird's head and eye are tack sharp. I'm a bit bothered by the background on the right. If you moved the camera to your right a little you might get a more uniform background. The slinky feeder looks good, but I would like to see the entire top - "the circle unbroken". This is an excellent example of making interesting images while staying home. |

Great image! The feeling of motion with the horse's feet up is excellent. The only suggestion I have is that to me the horse is going the wrong way. I just flipped it horizontally - what do you think?
