I still prefer the original pre-crop, the detail in the tree above the cub gave more info as to the habitat. The colours and light are much richer and for me improve it.

Thanks Terry, I will get around to showing some of the workings to create it soon. |

Definitely prefer the colour to the mono versions, and yes the background now doesn't compete with the cub, but can you get the richness of colour on the tree and cub as per Jason's version?

Thanks Jason, I was shooting with a red gel on the light, to play with the pink hair (which she later removed!), and have loads of alternatives to play with.
I did consider this crop as there are then the magic 3 figures but decided I wanted the extra character at the back to make you look deeper into the image. This image is from a 2017 street shoot and I recently needed more B&W images for a salon entry, I even thought about just leaving her in colour and desaturating the rest, but never got around to doing anything else with it.

Amazing level of detail, and as Brenda pointed out the wings now look so but better than the original.

A good fun picture and as moon shots go this is excellent, plenty of detail in the moon itself and I especially like the glow around the outside.
You've already talked abut the soft focus on the ape, and yes I would have like it more in focus. There is some side light coming in from the left which obviously is not from the moon, and I think I would consider enhancing this to allow a bit more light on the whole ape.

Sorry but no, it wasn't anything as good as Helen's version using a small jpg as source, there has been a lot of good work put in to her version to produce this image already. It was just something I've been playing with to boost contrast before changing to mono.

Lovely grab shot with lots of story telling, and changing to mono is definitely the way to go. I had a quick play and used Topaz Adjust HDR on the colour version to create more contrast before turning B&W, and then using the different filters in the B&W adjustment layer to get a better result.

What a fantastic building Jim, looks extremely plush and surprisingly empty, or you just timed it perfectly. I do like the large light in the foreground and the exposure on this lamp is excellent. Brenda has already mentioned the arch and this would improve the overall feel of the image.
This is now a tough call 'cos you were there and I wasn't, but it feels a bit too gold for me, especially in the green ceiling. I have tried what I think looks more real but as I said I wasn't there so feel free to totally ignore this bit.

Jason seems to have covered all the points here, and I prefer his edit for the lighting, although the background is still a tad bright for me.
As for your comments re Nature comp entries, you are right you can't remove anything, but can tweak the lighting. Good luck, this is an excellent image that should do well, I just wish I had one like it in my arsenal.
