Thanks Michael. I didn't think too much about composition at the time. There was so much going on and I was thinking about capturing the excitement more than anything. Difficult when you can't see the faces of the kids. I got several photos from different angles but in the end, this is the one that grabbed me. Perhaps that is why - the composition works in this story. |

Not sure what I think about this shot Adi. It's very busy in an industrial sense and you can see there are a multitude of tracks that seem to go forever on the right hand side. The leading lines made by the carriages and the tracks are good and the high contrasts make it punchy and almost "in your face". So in that way, it's a standout. |

No, I didn't notice and even now, not that easy to detect.
Obviously going to have to pay more attention in future. |

The use of a narrow depth of field works on this delicate subject and I think the way the vine falls down into the shadowy gradation in the lower third of the image is quite beautiful. The top third of the image does the opposite with a gradation reaching up into the light. It's artistic and a lovely image to view with a bit of a story about life. |

That's a massive glacier. In 2014 I did a cruise up the Inside Passage and one of the highlights was anchoring in Glacier Bay and watching the glacier calve. So I can really appreciate this image. Black and white is a good choice in this environment bringing out the tones, contrasts and mood. |

How good that you followed your instinct to get this photo Don. Looks like an award winner to me. Everything works - the subject, composition, lens choice, monochrome, the story behind that old building and your post processing. I wouldn't change a thing. |

Interesting shot Michael. It's an unsettling image in a way because there is no obvious connection between the frames - except perhaps for the cobblestones. The reflections all show parts of different street views. Three of the frames are close up while the second from the left is a longer view. Somehow, the girl riding the bike through the middle frame brings it altogether. Great capture. |

There's something about reflections that makes them intriguing. It's the distortion in this one that makes it particularly appealing to me. Lovely tonal contrasts in the reflection itself and the straight lines of the building tops the image off. Love it! |

Thanks Adi - I see what you mean by the contrast. I played around with it but it was such a dull day, the dark tones made the image gloomy and I felt it dragged the mood down. |

Thanks Lance, I'm glad you like it. The atmosphere was very damp from the rain and the performer constantly swirling around forcing spray out onto the kids. The kids were totally in the moment.
Thanks for giving the image a name. |
