Thanks Michael - that explains it all very well. I could imagine this lovely flower in the setting as in your original description but couldn't see how it could become such a standout. I thought you might have used a flash in some way to get such a heavy concentration of light on the flower. Your artistry has created a beautiful attention grabbing result. |

Hi Debashish - This looks like a fantastic place to visit with a camera in hand. Lucky you!
I think I'm agreeing with Michael and his suggestions to increase the tonal contrast in the deep shadow foreground to separate the different elements. It would make a big difference. |

Hi Lance - I really like the work you are doing with your tree photos. Not sure how to describe it but it seems you capturing the mood of the trees rather than the detail of their appearance. Black and white helps that to some extent. But it's also interesting that you have reverted to film and deliberately chosen the grain to achieve your aim. You probably could have achieved the same or very similar affect in post processing but somehow I suspect it wouldn't be nearly as satisfying.
I also don't understand the hoo-ha about blown out bits especially when the end result is what the artist is looking to achieve. It may become a problem in a print but otherwise it shouldn't be such a big deal. |

An oldie but a goodie Mark. Great archive find. This image is all about the very appealing face of the dog and the water or snowy bits around its mouth which emphasize the winter conditions. The rest of the image is incidental and I'm thinking you could probably crop the right and left sides to create a portrait and really bring the attention to the face. Beautiful dog! Love it. |

Another beautiful image Michael. Any chance you could provide some technical details? Did you use some other lighting technique to boost the natural light? Beautiful clarity on the flower and I love the rim lighting on the leaves to the left. |

Great subject Don. Nicely composed with the drama of the sky adding to the story of the plane. Beautifully sharp although, to me, the foreground is a little too sharp and takes some of the attention away from the plane. Agree with the comments on your cloning - can't pick where you did that. Well done! |
