Thank you Jon, both for your comments and the welcome. I'm glad you like the image. I was wondering how well it would work without a compelling focus on the eyes. And yes, some diffusion will be considered in future efforts. |

Thanks Mike. I agree with you about the context in regard to the puzzle and I think Lance's suggestion about changing the angle would give me more room to move. Interesting that you ask how long Russell took on the puzzle - it took quite a while because he didn't have a picture to work with. Our granddaughter had taken a selfie of her and her dog and got it made into a jigsaw. All the pieces came bundled into a plastic bag. Very messy at first. |

I think you either like infrared or you don't. Having said that though, it can also grow on you as it has with me. The first time I paid any attention to it was when a member did a presentation at club meeting a few years ago. He also, had converted an old camera. He showed us snowy Japanese landscapes where the contrasts were just beautiful - almost ethereal. I think IR adds another dimension to black and white photography. |

A really interesting image Mike. Love the old car and buildings and the feeling of abandonment. These old mining towns are great to roam around and imagine what they were like in their heyday. Back to the image - there's a big tonal contrast between the car and buildings on one hand and the grass on the other. The car seems to be reflecting the light while the buildings behind are absorbing it and making them appear a lot darker and taking the attention off the car to a certain extent. I wonder what's in those very dark bits? I would like to see a bit of that detail and less detail in the pebbly hill in the background. |

Thanks Lance. Like your idea of adding more context. I knew I had little room to work in but I didn't think of getting higher. I will have another go and see what I come up with. |

Hi Debasish - you have certainly captured the landing action and achieved great clarity in the spray. As your title says, the surfer is hidden in the mist. I can see the shape of his body in there and the tension where his body is skimming the water and where his hands clutch the windsurfer lines but would like to see him brought out a bit more. Having said that I cannot offer any suggestions on how you would do that. |

Thanks Stephen. It was a bare window so there was lots of light and I was quite happy with it. However, I have thought since that a nice soft terylene curtain might diffuse the light and distribute it evenly over the subject. |

Hi Lance - I really like this image and think it lends itself well to the square crop. At first I thought it was a couple of spanners but re-reading your notes I finally got the "connection". This type of venue is a treasure trove for interesting close-ups of old and sometimes rusty relics. Pleasing composition, great tonal contrasts and clarity. Lots of detail without being overly busy. I don't understand anything about film but it seems you have gone to a lot of trouble to produce this great image. |

Hi Jon - sounds like this was a great opportunity for you. I've never seen a wild musk ox before and it looks like a magnificent animal. Great close up image of its face and wild, wooly hair (but I have no idea what she is thinking). For me, though, the crop is a bit too tight but that may be because you had to separate her from the rest of the herd. |

Hi Tom - there is a lot to like about this image. The composition is spot on with the eye travelling along the walkway, great contrast and tack sharp. I bought a HOYA R72 for a recent IR club outing where I ended up with mixed results. I think it has been applied to great benefit in this image and I am inspired to have another go. |
