Love this study. I love the textures and your use of monochrome to add to the metallic, steel or iron feel of the overall composition. Great crop, shows the strength of the structure. I don't think the vine in the upper right corner adds to the subject and it leads my eye out of the photo. Here, you have a clear subject with everything supporting that subject. If you had taken the spider picture, then it probably would have been another storyline focusing on the spider rather than the strength of the support structure. |

Thanks Judith,
I used my Nikon D750 at 155mm, F2.8, 1/500 (a little windy). Yes, focus was off. |

Karl, thanks for your thoughtful analysis. I hadn't read your comment when I commented on Valerie's suggestions, but I totally agree 2.8 wasn't the best choice for that scene. I wish there were a "photographer's only time" in the mornings at Botanic and other gardens. Even though I'm a member of one closest to my home, I would pay for that opportunity. I'm thinking 2 hours prior to opening time. It would be cooler and the lighting better. |

Cool Valerie, I'll try it. It was so hot outside when I took that pic that I didn't want to try to get a better shot at that angle. I wish that group of flowers in front were all sharp too. Lesson learned for next time. I still could have that background blur with F4 and get more of the details in the group. |

The interim also, but I got a chance to use the graduated filter. What a thrill! Yes, it doesn't take much to make me happy, especially when learning new things in photography or post processing. |

Hi Sandra,
How nice, you have your own Christmas bush! I think when you intensified the red, that it brought out more of the yellows in the green leaves. I took your photo and only did work in Adobe Bridge to add more blue to the image and increased the texture. I also brought the highlights down and darkened the image a little and added a vignette to "contain" sprig. |

Great job with the transformation! I rather like the straw hanging out of his mouth, makes him look even cuter. I suggest toning his nose down a bit and brighten the eye a tad. Use the healing brush on his fur where the fence still shows. I would have stopped to take his picture too! |

This image has a "moody" feel to it for me. Maybe because of the shadows and from the perspective of being in the shadows while taking the picture. The day is fleeting as time stops for no one. Opportunity abounds, but we must leave the shadows to attain it--or, have we already found it by looking out from the shadows? |

This is great, just looking at your image, I was immediately transported back to Japan. They call these plants "Shobu" and they are grown in wet, marsh-like environments. I went to one iris garden in Japan that had many varieties of iris and boardwalk type walking surfaces above the irises. I'm glad you braved the rain to capture this picture! I love the light on the flower faces and the delicateness of the petals. Now I'm homesick for Japan. |

Love the protester's expression that is particular fitting with the rain and with the somber event. Very photojournalistic. Was this a cropped photo? It might be just me, but I don't like the head in the lower right. I'm thinking if the other girl were also in the picture, that it could possibly show the young ladies united for the same powerful cause. This looks like an image for a news agency. I also took protest pictures here in Denver. |

The mushroom doesn't look like a mushroom at all. It looks like the head of an old man with a big nose who had a rough day. Love the colors and texture. I also see a face in the leaf pile on the upper right. It would be nice if that pile were not so bright compared to your wonderful mushroom. The brightness is causing my eyes to look at the leaf pile. |

The blurring was in-camera based on the F-Stop of 2.8. I did several things in lightroom. It was the first time that I didn't do any work in PS. I didn't realize there were presets in LR, I used "Soft Mist". I usually don't mess with curves, but in the Develop module, I pressed "Tone Curve" and played with the RGB channels separately. Oh, I now know how to use the graduated filter and I did that with a magenta hue. Yikes, I just realized that I uploaded an interim file. Here's the last one I did. |

Wow, this looks like cherry blossom season in Japan! Those are leaves, not flowers, right? I didn't notice the tombstones until I read the summary and saw the original shot. Looks like a peaceful and lush place, rather uncommon for cemeteries I've seen. It would be interesting to have the backstory on the cemetery. While this is a beautiful shot, I'm thinking that a panorama including the grave markers would have told the story of "Spring and 6 feet under" better. I haven't done work using filters, or Infrared but this makes me want to experiment. Nice job! |
