12 Dec 25 Comment This is a very impactful image. It points out how dangerous debris in the ocean is to the sea life. I helped clean up a beach in Haida Gwaii last year, and I couldn't believe the amount of fishing debris and other assorted items--hard hats, shoes, plastic buckets, lots of nets, and just random junk. On the West Coast, it primarily comes from the far Pacific, carried by currents, and deposited in the winter. Dec 14th
12 Dec 25 Comment Wonderful image for a social issue. I agree with Carole, it's very impactful. Nice choice. Dec 14th
12 Dec 25 Reply My camera club has had the same debate, but we get to use a title. The judges seem smart enough to separate the title from the photographic merits of the image. I think titles are helpful as well as instructive to the viewer.

I had no room on the right. There were people watching and no good place to crop without leaving a random leg or arm. As it is, I had to remove an appendage. Perhaps instead I should crop tighter on the left to make it look as if the tight crop is intentional!

12 Dec 25 Reply Thanks for your comments Carole. If women ruled the world, our civilization would be based on peace, as no mother would want her child to be killed in war. Dec 14th
12 Dec 25 Comment Terrific photo Carole. Indeed it is a social action to show your insulin pump. I liked that you removed the distractions. Your happy and energetic demeanor also challenges some stereotypes of chronic disease. The photo would be a great promo for the Diabetes Society. Thanks for sharing.

43 Dec 25 Comment Hi Harley,

My husband likes working with HDR, but he displays then only on his iPad, which is capable of it. Once you convert an HDR to jpeg, and then display it on the PSA site, the image is no longer HDR. I think taking it into Topaz Studio (which I believe converts to TIFF) causes the HDR to be crushed to standard.

In any case, I like the perspective of this image and the compositional elements, namely the diagonal road and the large estate. To my eye, the colors are a bit hot. I liked the house better when it was white rather than the blue cast.

I use Topaz Studio a lot. I find that sometimes turning the effect to, say 40 or 50%, works well. What settings are you using?

43 Dec 25 Comment I learned something! The second tallest education building in the world. Wow!

I don't know what the Cathedral looks like in color, but this is a fine black and white image that brings out the texture of the stones. The perspective communicates the height well. Nice job!

43 Dec 25 Comment Great image of the moon Mark. What are the "UFO" lights orbiting the moon? I assume you added these, so I am wondering what your intention is. I like it, just curious. Dec 14th
43 Dec 25 Comment Terrific image Andrew! You did a great job capturing the motion and getting the traffic cop in focus. Nice technique and also a great story about a street closed to cars. Dec 14th
