I did not try moving to the left, but will the next time I do a photo shoot on the coast (which is not too far from me). I had been thinking about bisecting the "one-third" line by placing my camera directly on the rail and using my remote. If I had laid down on the ground that low, I might never have been able to get up!!! 😀 |

Thank you for your suggestions Andrew. Perhaps I should have used some real wine! A burgundy. I captured the image of the wine glass on a day when I set up about 2 dozen glasses for various poses, some with blue water and some with red. But you are correct, with selective color adjustment, I can certainly modify the "wine" color. Also making the glass smaller would be a good approach. |

Thanks for your comments Bruce. You are right, the glass isn't really needed. Perhaps I'll make a version without it. I was going through a phase where I wanted to make a creative print for my local camera club that would place in our monthly competition. We have some very talented people. This photo did not win, but it helped me to develop an approach where I finally did get an award. (I'm over that phase now.) Your suggestion to take out the glass would leave an air of mystery as to what's at the end of the line. I like it. |

Hi Mark,
It's just an example. It really isn't possible to do good processing on a jpeg that is under 1Mb. Too many artifacts, color crushing, and so on. But with a RAW or Tiff, there could be many more possibilities, including adjusting the highlights so they aren't washed out, tweaking the color precisely, and so on. |

Thanks for the comments Harley. Yes, the message is to think about the Napa Wine Train, which is a big tourist attraction in Northern California where I live!!! |

Thanks Mark. I like the suggestion! A tree would work. Being a Californian and always hearing about the Napa Wine Train, I guess that's why the wine came to mind. |

Hi Leo,
This is a wonderful documentary image. I like how the human hand is reaching for the balloon.
You might considering straightening the image a bit, adjusting the while balance, and dodging the hand to make it more prominent. You could also selectively sharpen the hand, but you would need to do that on the original file. |

Hi Mark,
I love the beard and the expression you captured. To me, the portrait is about the blue. I experimented using Nik Efx Color, Warm Sunset filter, which I think makes the blue pop a bit more because of the glow on the man's face. What do you think? There are some artifacts in the coat, because of the low resolution of the image, but I think it would look smoother if used on the original. |

Fantastic! Crop, color, detail. I love it. I've tried photostacking but never got a result this good. You are an inspiration! |

Hi Lane,
Fungus are great subjects. I love the colors. For my taste, a bit of a crop would put the fungus more in the "power point" and yet still retain the tree texture, like this. |

What a great action shot! Panning is difficult, and you achieved a wonderful effect that fit the subject.
Sometime it might also be interesting to keep the camera still (or on a tripod) and then the rider zip through the image, thus keeping the background sharp. Have you done that in the past? |

Wonderful image. I like your blurred background. It brings out the eagle without looking as if the eagle is "pasted" into the front. To my eye, Harley's version is a bit distracting because of the artifacts around the eagle. I've had that problem too when I've tried using blur. I found that, for my taste, just a little blur goes a long way.
Now your challenge is to get the eagle in flight with a fish in its talons! 😀 |
