Hi Oliver,
Your image is certainly more dramatic in black and white. I like how you reoriented the light. I think you are on to something with having light stream in from the top right but to my eye, it doesn't quite give me the impression of a sun ray streaming through clouds. It is more of a haze.
There are a few ways to make fake sun rays in PS. Luminar also has a sun ray effect although I find that can be more difficult to place than using PS. Keep iterating! |

Hi Israel,
I really like the texture on the old truck and the fact that the windmill is actually working. To my eye, the vehicles showing through the truck window are a bit distracting. I am wondering whether it would be possible to replace the driver's window with something-perhaps a reflection of an obect that's not in scene?
I agree with Bob's point about the blank space needing something in it so balance out the rest of the image. Perhaps Sky Replacement is a solution. If you have other photos from Namibia that have sky, you might see if some of those clouds would work. |

Hi LuAnn,
Earth has a 2 minute trailer on his process. As part of the class, he provides Photoshop actions that set up his unique stack.

Hi Bob,
I seen many balloon images, but always in color. Your treatment focuses my eye on the textures and shapes. What an interesting approach!
I do like the sky that Oliver added. It gives more depth to the image. |

Hi Leah,
What a great idea to photograph a dried hydrangea! I agree with many of the previous comments concerning making that frontmost flower pop and separating it from its close neighbor. Is the flower still around? I am wondering if you can take it from a different angle to make the separation in the camera. BTW Topaz is fun. Once in awhile they have a special purchase price and they do let you try it for free. |

Hi Emil,
This image gives me the feeling of an impending storm. I love what you did with the clouds. It was a great choice to add them, as they really make the image special. You darkening does draw me into the image, although as other have noted, perhaps a bit extra space in the reflection. |

Hi LuAnn,
Great job on the glass. I spent a lot of time earlier in the pandemic photographing wine glasses and bottle. Nothing as successful as you. But I will try again using some of your tips. And also using frequency separation 2.0. I took Earth Oliver's class where he showed how to, in Photoshop, control reflections and sculpt light using his particular workflow for FS. |

I love what you did Oliver! It makes the image more dramatic and uses a wider range of the histogram. I may be wrong, but my impression is that good monochrome images use the full range of black to white. Any insight on that?
I would still add the fake cloud into the upper left, though, as to my eye, it helps balance. Many thanks for the suggestion. |
