Hi Leah,
The background is a translucent roller shade with a slight pattern on it. I installed it so that I could have a soft side light effect for some setups. But for this image, I used it as a backdrop. I didn't want to back light the scene so I placed black poster board behind the shade.
I agree about not having enough space at the top. My setup didn't allow for it. But your excellent observation prompted me to use Photoshop content-aware fill to add some space. |

I find the lines in this image extremely interesting. It gives ma a lot to explore. The darkest of the image imparts an eerie feeling. I think you achieved your goal this image being ominous. My only suggestion is that because the window is such a focal point of the image, I would straighten the image by 1 degree.
Thanks for the tip on Artisan Pro. Given that I am trying to improve my monochrome images, this seems like a good plug in. |

To me, this image is all about those puppy eyes! They draw me right into the image and make me want to pet Cinnamon. I would have liked a bit more depth of field so that Cinnamon's nose and mouth were sharper. The crop works well. LuAnn's suggestion to pump up the vignette really makes Cinnamon pop.
Are you planning to use this image for a holiday card? You could! |

Leah, I love that you captured this beautiful steeple. The image has wonderful lines, combined with the various tones of light and dark, this makes for an attractive image.
To my eye, the frame is a bit distracting. I do like the way Oliver added some contrast. Although you could add a fake sky, my preference is to work with what you have. I am beginning to recognize some of the program-supplied skies!
For me, it is a challenge to figure out how to crop the top of something. In this crop I eliminated the building supports, which also eliminated the power lines in the lower left. I'd love to know what you think.

Wonderful image. I like the way the soft background contrasts with the focus of the insect. Your crop works well but this is the sort of image that could look great with a variety of crops. What Bob suggests might also result in an interesting image.
Topaz Denoise is terrific. I use it a lot.
Where are you having your zine done? I used to do books, but now I just maintain a website. It is very satisfying to produce something like a zine, perhaps I'll try again! Thanks for the inspriation. |

What a wonderful composition! The way you lined up the Solitaire sign is, to my eye, very clever and emphasizes the lonely space in which this truck is abandoned. I also like that I can see a distant tree through the door window. I agree with Bob about the shadow, but it is a very minor point. Nicely done! |

Hi Bob, I agree about the two flowers at the base. I haven't been quite happy with them. Today, I revised the setup and used a large bouquet of dried white roses. It is much easier to identify what they are and it also balances the photo more. |

Thanks for the kind words LuAnn. Yes this is the same bottle that caused quite a stir when posed differently. In the Seed Head version I was simply trying to avoid up and down. But then I learned that many viewers had an interpretation quite different from what I saw. Now I show that photo to my friends as a Rorschach test! |

What a beautiful image. I am enjoying the ethereal quality as well as the tonality you chose. It's not easy to get a great result with camera movement, but I think you did a splendid job. (I've take a few workshops from Charles Needles and I'm still trying to master some of those techniques.) |
