That's interesting to hear you are also a member of the IR group. BTW, can I ask you where you sent your camera away to do the conversion? Thanks, Jack! John |

Albert, I like this a lot especially all the detail. Good focus too. I could not have done better with my macro lens! Thanks for sharing this. |

Thanks Don. My friend had used Kolari vision but it is good to know that LifePixel is another option. |

Adrian,
You have created a dramatic image that captures my attention partly due to clouds of dust and especially the fact the elephant is looking at the viewer. This does work well for a BW since there is not much color variation. For me a little more contrast would be helpful and I think showing more of this scene such as part of the other elephant would add interest/context. I cropped your image a little wider which also allows the main subject to be a little off center.

Don,
I like the feel that you created with this image and sensed that it was not a normal image. The wooden house stands out nicely and you did a great job with the exposure. I appreciate the contrast in shapes that the four bushes add in the foreground. My only minor critique is that the one bush is cropped off which also removes the ground. Perhaps giving a little more room at the bottom, or, doing a crop higher up through this bush and the one immediately behind it. I am also becoming intrigued by IR and wonder if you also used a particular type of filter?

Ed,
For me this does provide a peaceful feeling and I think this is a good choice for a monochrome as it adds to the emotion that you are trying to capture. I like how the path leads my eye into picture. You were lucky to have an interesting set of clouds in the sky. For me I think adding more contrast would help the church stand out more and I don't feel that would detract from the peacefulness of the image. (I tried some tweaks in Topaz BW). To help emphasize the tranquility of this scene, you might consider removing the tourists at least the two who look like they are walking away from the church.

Jack,
This is a good comparison of textures and forms and works well in monochrome which is well exposed. Yes, for me this type of 'minimalist" image works because there is enough interest all over the image. I also like the different curves that I can see such as those in the wood and how the stems connect the two leaves. To me the placement of the leaves is not an issue and for me it looks good as is since they seem to form a diagonal together with the splotch of light in the lower right corner. I was not able to tell that this was an IR image and would be interested in knowing if this effect could have been created simply by processing a non-IR image.

Jen,
This is a nice composition with a lot to like: the variety of curves and shapes as well as the textures in the metal. Nice range of tones that works well for a monochrome. My only comment is that I wish there was a little more room on the left side. You may be able to do this in Lightroom by expanding the canvas and doing a content aware fill. Thanks for sharing!
