Jen,
The first thing that attracted me to your image was the clouds and they seem very well separated from the trees. Since the soccer field is such a prominent part of the image, I wish there were some activity on it which would greatly increase the impact and help me to create memories of my younger days. If you were able to take this image during a cricket match that would make for a more exotic feel, at least for me.

Albert,
I like the sense of depth you were able to achieve with the cobblestone street leading into the image. I also appreciate the contrast between the strong lines of the wooden planks of the building with the more circular lines of the cobblestone. In my experience with images like these, timing is always critical for success. For your image, I wish the farthest pedestrians were a little closer which (1) would provide more foreground interest as well as them being (2) better separated from the buildings in the background. In my opinion, you have lost a little of the contrast that is present in the colored picture, for example, I don't get the effect of the wetness as much in the monochrome image. For me the choice of framing the top of the image does not work so well as it makes me wonder what it adds and thus serves as a distraction.

Adrian,
This is a good landscape with a strong leading line from the foreground to the mountains and a dramatic sky above. I note that the horizon is centered in the middle makes me feel that the foreground is equally important than the mountains and sky. However, because there is not anything that stands out in the foreground, I would suggest cropping more of the foreground which would make me focus more on the mountains and sky. To me, too much of the right is cropped and I would prefer that there is more room to the right of the highest peak. To help make the mountains stand out more, you might consider increasing the contrast.

Ed,
You clearly have a good eye and are always aware of the potential photos around you. I see this as a funny capture of this woman with a pose that looks to me like a question mark. People are always taking selfies nowadays and you captured a good one. For the best effect, I think you need some luck since the event is often over so quickly. For me, one thing working against the image is the location of her smart phone which is not completely isolated but touches the behind, behind her. I believe you added a vignette to try to darken some of distractions in the background which is a good idea although for me I think it makes the lightening a little unnatural since the image comes across as a little too dark for what appears to be a sunny day.

Jack,
This is an interesting sandscape and I enjoy seeing all the wavy lines in the sand formed by the waves action. I can imagine spending a lot of time myself capturing the forms and patterns. In my opinion there are few things that catch my attention that distracts from making this a more perfect image: (1) it seems like the image has most detail in the lower left and the image is not as sharp in the center of the image which is where my eye is lead initially. (2) Due to the strong diagonals from the right and the dark sand leading to the top right, I seem to have the tendency to move off the image and away from the center. (3) For me, I would like a little darker sand in some regions. Thanks for this image.

Don,
For me this is a very tranquil image and makes me think of the importance of family. I like how the mother's head is perfectly mirrored in the still water in contrast to those of her ducklings. I see that you left some space in front of the ducks for them to swim into which works well. I wish there was a little more detail that showed the feathers as well as some catch light in the eyes. I am wondering if by simply cropping in tighter would help in these respects?
