Since I care more about how I feel about an image than how I think judges might feel about an image, I have still reversed the bird's direction of flight. I like much more the image resulting from inclusion of the one bird that has the water behind. The dark sea and the addition of another layer to be image seems to me to compensate for the plain sky behind the main cluster of birds in your first image. Perhaps it also adds the question "What is that one isolated bird thinking?" |

I like this because it shows the historically important building in its present context. I find it interesting that my brain erases telephone poles and wires in the physical scene, but not so much in a photograph of the same. |

As I prepare images for my own enjoyment and not for competitions, I'm insensitive to such issues as where the judges might be from. I think however, that the great majority of the world's population reads left to right. |

I'd like this more if the story of the image were more clear. Is the point of the picture the grain elevator or the role of the truck? The grain elevator itself is pretty complex, and I wonder if only a portion of this image, say part of the elevator and no truck might form a more coherent image. One of the nice things about B&W is that you can make dramatic images by including something that is almost pure black and something that is almost pure white which together, give many images a real punch. This image has a lot of greys instead. |

Are these herons or egrets? I like the family scene and that you removed the "extra" birds in the original. I find the background a little distracting. You might consider some fairly strong vignetting or somewhat darkening or blurring all the background, leaving just the nest and birds unchanged. |

I like the fact that this is different from the usual photographs of water falls. |

I like the balance, with the statue on the right and the curve of the passageway to the left. I'd like it a little more if the sky had not been featureless. |

Very nice colors, and a nice grouping of the birds. I'd like it a bit more if you had the birds flying to the right. |

Placing the blossoms properly in the image area left the stem unnaturally long, making it a distraction. To reduce the prominence of the stem, I did not use the images in the focus stack in which the stem was in focus. This allowed the end of the stem to recede into background and also left it and the leaf blurred, which kept the emphasis on the blossoms, where I wanted it. |
