78 Jun 23 Reply Gee, to me the selves suggest a sourcer or a fortune teller. Without them, it could be someone who has just opened an Amazon package which is less interesting. Jun 18th
78 Jun 23 Comment Thank you and everyone else for comments that made me focus on what I was trying for. Jun 18th
78 Jun 23 Comment James' version of my shot comes the closest to generating the feeling that I was seeking with the wide green fields, trees, mountains, and clouds. Working with his idea, I've opted for a somewhat wider view with tree branches in the foreground for framing. I am uncertain about the saturation and I increased it somewhat, but not as much as James. Resolution was not too much of a problem since my original is 8100 x 5400. I understand that with PS, one can now edit with A.I. I want to assure everyone however, that all my edits were done using natural neurons. Jun 18th
78 Jun 23 Comment Brenda's owl inspired me to take this shot. This dumb robin repeatedly flies against our sliding doors to the deck, under which she bird has built a nest. A silhouette of a hawk only somewhat discouraged the pointless behavior. Taking this required me to stand motionless fifteen feet away for what seemed an eternity, but in reality was only about 20 minutes. For the longest time this robin and her mate remained in trees about 25 feet away. Jun 15th
78 Jun 23 Reply Thank you. That is helping me see the problem. I think the conclusion is that the fence and the mailboxes are way too much stuff in the foreground. Although, I think that in general it is good to have something in the foreground. Jun 7th
78 Jun 23 Comment Looks like everyone but me loves mailboxes.
Do people think the image would have been better if taken in the same direction from just inside the fence?

78 Jun 23 Reply Thank you Jim and Brenda. All my shots from that morning have one problem or another. I feel that a shot of the fields, trees, and mountains needs something in the foreground, but it sounds like in what I submitted, there is too much foreground material. Here is a crude try at removing more of the foreground and retaining some of the what lies beyond the fence. Jun 4th
78 Jun 23 Comment Brenda's sky replacement makes this very nice. Within the roof area on the right of the helmet are some reflections of the original background. It would be nice if they were removed and replaced with what would look like a reflection of the new sky. Jun 4th
78 Jun 23 Reply I'm not sure I know either. Perhaps try halfway between the original and your posted version. Oh, after writing the previous sentence I saw Ken Weaver's version. His is pretty much what I had in mind. Jun 4th
78 Jun 23 Comment Amazing and most creative. I think I would like it more if the illumination on the hands and shirt appeared to come from the crystal ball instead of from below. Jun 3rd
78 Jun 23 Comment As mailboxes like these abound in my neighborhood, in this image I intended them merely to be something in the foreground to frame what to me was to be the subject of the shot--everything beyond the fence and mailboxes. Perhaps there is a crop that would better emphasize "the beyond"? Jun 3rd
78 Jun 23 Comment Tipping the subject as you did seems absolutely brilliant to me. I don't have any suggestions. Jun 3rd
78 Jun 23 Comment It makes me think and wonder. I think I'd like it more if the background were dramatically blurred. I think I might also like it more if there were some hints of detail in the face area as that large dead black area feels a little threatening to me. Jun 3rd
78 Jun 23 Comment Removing the boat in the background seems like a good step. I'd like the image more if the dark parts of the clouds on the left were not quite so dark. Increasing the saturation to bring out the nice gradient in the sky colors, also turned the shadow side of the boat more blue than I'd expect from the overall orange cast of the (adjusted) light. 78 Jun 23 Comment At least, for me, not having recently driven on Valley Road, the important parts of the image are the three lava pillars. Therefore, I'd be more tempted to crop out the road with cars. Maybe Jim would like to take a crack at cropping so that the monuments don't pull our attention from what he wanted to emphasize. 78 Jun 23 Comment Your effort in taking the picture has been nicely rewarded. I like your decsion to tone or add color to the image. I think that I would like your image a little more if you slightly toned down the toning. To me, that rear portal adds to the image and I prefer your cropping to the tighter one proposed by Jim.
