Additional modifications improve an already very nice shot. Perhaps the head could withstand a little more lightening? The left-clawed eagle comment is a pretty lame attempt at a political joke. |

That is really interesting and appealing, thank you. To go just a little further with it, I'd crop off the top (your new top) 1/4 and clone green into the sun-lighted areas on the left. |

I would never had had the courage to put those two cactus petals so near the top edge--and yet, in your version everything looks great. Thank you for showing me how to make yet another improvement to this image. |

Mitch's crop is very much what I had in mind. |

Here is one of my two revisions in response to comments. I rotated this a bit to reduce the amount of background. To my eye, reducing the sharpening and clarity has increased the feeling of luminosity that I was seeking. |

Thank you. That is pretty close to one of my two new revisions. Soon I'll post my dissimilar revision. My code of conduct for editing would allow removing the partial cactus in the upper left. |

I agree with you on this. Once I've seen an object or image in one orientation, that orientation feels most natural to me. In the situations where I've not been imprinted with one orientation, I think that because I read from left to right, and when a subject is one that moves, it feels more natural to me to have its potential movement towards the right. A weaker preference, but one that I still feel, is for a neutral subject, say a flower, to slope upwards towards the right rather than upwards towards the left. |

This is so beautiful. When I look at this a see a Martian spaceship emerging from a crystallized landscape. If it is possible, this might look even better if you gave the "spaceship" a little more space at the top. |

I like how you have brought out the color and texture in the half-lit bud and neutralized an unattractive background. I find the green leaves are competing with the bud so I'd consider cropping a fair amount of them off. |

I have no problem with the blown highlights. That's the way my eyes see polished metal in bright light. To me this would be even nicer if it were reversed left-to-right. |

Very nice. Maybe crop a little off the bottom and maybe lighten the head a bit. I agree that it feels natural to give the eagle some space to fly into. Would this be considered to be a liberal eagle? |

I particularly like the unusual angles and the rich browns. The archetecture itself isn't so bad either. I don't see anything that I'd suggest.
Much of the detail in the library also looks photogenic. |

Thank you for your ideas. I'll first try reducing the sharpening and clarity and darkening the background. Cloning in additional petals is outside my self-imposed limitations on modifications to an image. I haven't yet become interested in entering competitions, so my images are for my own amusement and development. |
