30 Jun 21 Comment The blossoms on the tree are very nice. It is unfortunate that the railing and the shoreline make one or the other look tipped. If printed very large, the large amount of detail on the shore would look good. For me, in a print about a foot across, there is too much going on. Is it possible to shift the color of the sky a bit towards more blue? Jun 4th
30 Jun 21 Comment It is an interesting combination of the two birds. I like the image still more after giving a little color to the background surrounding the birds. I may have overdone it however. Jun 3rd
30 Jun 21 Comment The position of the surfers with respect to the waves seems perfect. I also like the succession of waves. To me, the image was improved by cropping to move the horizon further from the middle and by increasing the contrast. (I like B&W to be pretty contrasty.) Jun 3rd
30 Jun 21 Comment What an amazing and interesting plant. I like the setting with the tree trunk and the violet leaves, and I think that the proposed matting and framing goes well with the image. I like it still more after somewhat darkening the violet leaves as at present they compete somewhat with the Dusty Miller. Jun 3rd

42 Jun 21 Comment The pattern of the ripples is also very nice. Jun 11th
42 Jun 21 Comment I did nothing to the pollen. This is the way it was. Jun 6th
42 Jun 21 Comment This is an interesting photograph that captured my attention for quite a while. At first I was bothered by the figures in the background, but after a while their presence felt consistent with the shoe maker displaying his work to an audience. Jun 3rd
42 Jun 21 Comment I like the different ropes and the wall as well as the fact that this image covers the full range of luminosities, from pure black to pure white. I'd like it still more if the contrast were higher as I like B & W to be quite contrasty. Jun 3rd
42 Jun 21 Comment This must be fantastic when printed at two feet across. The camera seems to have been positioned just right, with one of the prominences above the horizon and one below and a nice separation between them. The importance of shooting from this position probably prevented you from finding a pebble or pond or plant to put in the foreground. If this were my image, I'd turn down the saturation a bit. 42 Jun 21 Comment I really like this image. It has interesting and important material in the foreground, at midrange, and at a distance. It tells a very interesting story, and in addition does so with an image that is not often seen. I'd like it still more if the sky more naturally fit with the rest of the image. I would like the greys in the clouds and the greys in the rest of the image to be neutral. Also, the distant jungle growth shows that the atmosphere was not perfectly clear whereas clouds at roughly the same distance are sharp because the atmosphere between the camera and the clouds was very clear. I've not been in the tropics much, but my recollection is that a sky with clouds like this is more often seen in the American Southwest than the tropics. When I began playing with this image, I discovered that it was best to color balance in the first step. Then, a different sky might be substituted for the one in the original. Here is a version of the original. After balancing the color using the clouds, I adjusted some for vignetting. Jun 2nd
