Could those other images also have been composites? It surely looks to me like the water in this image is in a position to show some reflections of the fireworks. Because the water is somewhat rippled, it might be quite hard to make the reflections look right. Perhaps Leonid could do it. |

I'll try it without the colors in the background. |

In contrast to Dorinda, I like the sky near the left and right edges. I also like the texture of the clouds. Because the horizon is near the center, I like the image cropped a bit from the bottom. |

It is not easy for find an antiparallel orientation of three fish like this. In our pond, they show a very strong preference for parallel clusters. Use of a polarizing filter might have helped reduce the reflection from the water's surface. |

Judy's version is very nice also.
I've taken so darned many flowers the past four months that I'm happy to see something a little different, and Dorinda's sideways orientation provided what I was looking for. I don't know which of the two I prefer. Novelty was also the motivation for my intergalactic shot. |

I've played with the processing of this image and looked at other raw files of the lotus leaves at this pond. I think that the issue is more of contrast than sharpness. As far as sharpness goes, what I submitted was about as sharp as it gets. The leaves must have something of a velvety surface that gives them a soft appearance. Here is a version of what I submitted in which I increased just the contrast in the luminosity region of the leaf. (I do prefer that the leaf be less bright than your example.) To me it looks a lot like yours. I am undecided as to whether I prefer the higher or lower contrast version. I think I'll have to make several prints and look at them for a month in order to be able to decide. |

The clouds and sky make it interesting, I agree. I was wondering whether you were seeking to have the sky and clouds look natural, in which case they could have some texture (not be blown), or whether you wanted it to look like a painted ceiling. |

What fantastic colors. I also like the inclusion of the background that shows the context. |

Very interesting. Is it your intent that there be no texture visible in the sky and clouds? |

The luminosity of the water, the mill, and the sky are all just right to beautifully display the fireworks. I would like the image a little more if there were some "evidence" of reflections of the fireworks in the water. |
