I agree with Dorinda's and Tom's sentiments. |

Head on or not is hard for me to decide. Here I've explored making it look like the photograph was taken from somewhat to the side as Leonid was suggesting. I wonder if Jessica feels that shifting the center of the flower like this reduces her liking of the image. |

You can get a good idea of how objects look through a water drop by holding your eyeglasses, camera lens, or magnifying glass at arm's length. Any sort of displacement and size change of objects beyond the drop should be sufficient to make a drop look more real. |

I understand that this is a composite, but since photographs generally record reality, I have trouble appreciating a "photograph" that contains elements that obviously defy physical law. I would have liked this image more if the background behind the drop were distorted the way a real drop would have.
I think that Judy is also getting at something helpful--it would also be nice to understand some connection between the apples and the splash. |

Yes, it would be a different picture. By the way, it is really hard to make a water drop as large as the one that you have above the apples. Also take a look at how a water drop distorts the shapes of objects behind it. A drop acts like a little lens, but the normal lensing effect is missing here. |

Yes, I see that the incomplete top leaf is a bit of a negative. |

Red, white, and blue! It's not often that you can see these three simultaneously in aerial fireworks. For shots like this, I wonder if it works to combine two shots, one of the fireworks, and one of the lights on the ground where the exposure has been adjusted so that the ground lights don't compete with the fireworks. |

Very nice. I'm envious. This past week I wasted more than a hundred shots trying to get a decent image of a butterfly. No luck for me. |

The bird and the reflection are very nice. What a distance shot! To me the image would be nicer if more of the reeds were cropped out so as to emphasize the bird. At the same time, with a little masking, you could darken the reeds and reduce the competition between the bird and the reeds. |

I like the vignetting as it keeps my attention at the center. I'd like the image more if the red were less powerful. It hurts to look at. It appears that the red is blown. Perhaps it is not blown in the original raw file, and if so, processing so as to retain more texture in the petals will give the image the appearance of being sharper. |

How about expanding the splash a lot and making it appear that an apple is the cause of the splash? |
