30 Feb 19 Reply More and more I'm coming to want most of my photographs to result from capturing instances of natural beauty rather than being the starting point for a "photograph" that becomes beautiful after significant manipulation. (That being said, wait until you see my images for the next two months.) For this image, I don't want to manipulate the white background, and I rather like the contrast between the angle of the weed's stem and the angle of the tree trunk. I'll try to keep your warning about white areas in mind when I'm out photographing. Feb 16th
30 Feb 19 Comment I agree that Leonid's first submission is a journalistic photo. As such, I like the fact that its crop places the disaster in context. Feb 13th
30 Feb 19 Reply That is, perhaps the camera wasn't in the best possible position. Feb 13th
30 Feb 19 Comment I agree with Judy that the rightmost lamp comes too close to the edge. (I was looking at the globes and overlooked the spires on top.) For me, the cropping on the bottom is so small it makes no difference. Feb 13th
30 Feb 19 Comment I love the sharpness and the feeling of closeness as well as the nicely blurred background. With only a moderate telephoto, you must have gotten quite close. I think the image could have been improved if you had been able to catch the birds in more interesting poses and if there weren't the question of where is the fourth leg. Feb 11th
30 Feb 19 Comment I like the pleasing colors, the soft illumination, and the appropriate background. I think the image could be improved if the background were a little less sharp and if a little more green figured in the plant. Feb 11th
30 Feb 19 Comment I appreciate how well this photo describes the desolation and destruction caused by the fire. I like the fact that the composition shows the effects of the fire on natural objects and on man made objects. I think the image could be improved if it were not sharpened so severely, and some of the artifacts connected with the distant green mountain range were less apparent. Feb 6th
30 Feb 19 Comment I like the feeling that this image invokes, particularly that of being near a wind-blown beach. I feel that the image could be improved if the yellow kayak weren't dominating the scene and if it weren't seen through the grasses. Feb 6th
30 Feb 19 Comment I like the contrast between man made and nature in the greens, the lamp posts and surmounting globes and the trees and leaves. I also like the fact that the contrast between the hard edges of man made objects and natural objects extends to the stonework. Finally, I like the cloning that replaced spots of sky with more leaves.
I think the image might be improved if the green of the leaves hadn't been boosted quite so much and if the depth of field had been a little deeper so as to include the leaves on the trees.
