Thanks, Steven. This shot was actually in my outtakes bin,I resurrected for the "Leaf" challenge. it's a large tropical palm like leaf I took in the conservatory of Longwood Gardens, where I shoot several times a year. It was shot straight up, backlit by the glass skylight. The dapple light was from the surrounding canopy of other tropical trees. In post processing, I tilted the image for a more dramatic angle. I consciously wanted to keep the sunlight spots at the bottom, which I feel breaks up the pattern of the image and gives it more interest or intrigue. That light is not specular, but rather dapple, with it's own pattern. In order to accomplish this without cropping, after I tilted the image, I scaled out the image its original size and aspect ratio, then used content aware to fill in the blanks. B&W conversion was done prior to that in light room with some voodoo combination of curves, sliders and local adjustments. |
