Group Round C/R Comment Date Image
87 Jan 20 Comment Perhaps a little tighter cropping would be easier with simular results.

87 Jan 20 Comment Jennifer, this is a lovely rendering of this scene, particularly in the context of yin and yang, Light and Dark. I only wish it was posted a bit larger so I could appreciate the details. Hint: when outputting from lightroom, on the File settings, JPEG sRGB Limit file size to 1000K; On the Image size, Resize to Fit: Long Edge, 1080 pix, 72 pix per Inch. This will render a full screen image on most screens while not exceeding the 1MB limitations for uploads.

I also liked Steven's cropping interpretation of this image, using the foreground trees for framing. That rendering, or similar, can also be considered for print.

87 Jan 20 Comment Steven, this is a technique I have not yet attempted, but have been meaning to get around to. I have a pluto trigger system, but have yet to employ it for this type of photography. The image rendered at your moment of capture is nicely enhanced with your lighting setup and gelling. Your depth of field is razor thin, even at f/14. Your point of focus is tack sharp. I belief if you stopped down 1 or 2 more stops and shifted the focal point a touch closer, you could also bring the rest of the umbrella into focus and increase the subject area. With 3 lights at 1/64 power, you have plenty of room to boost power to compensate and and also to bring the ISO down to its native 100. Another alternative would be to move your camera and focal distance back a foot or two and then crop to compose. Jan 13th
87 Jan 20 Comment This is a very interesting and ponder worthy image, Lance. The rippling water created a wonderful abstraction, while the nearly obscure leaf give the eye a place to rest. The jury is out, for me, however, on the specular highlights. Although I realize they are naturally occurring in the chaos of the abstract and I also give special dispensation as a "film" image, the cluster formations of these blown out blobs appear somewhat like alien invaders to my eyes. In any case, I enjoy looking at this image. Jan 13th
87 Jan 20 Comment Keen eyes, Steven. I, apparently didn't notice or overlooked the distraction of the phone polls and lines and bill board or sign along the distant roadside in the lower left, which had been, otherwise, disappeared when I cropped to reformat to a 4:5 aspect ratio for print. This shot was taken in November. There was still a little late autumn color left on the few remaining trees with clinging foliage. I have been to this National Monument Park a few times, but only in winter or late autumn. I have only seen the tree next to the cabin barren. The air, at the time of this shot was calm, albeit, very chilly, which I was entirely underdressed an ungloved for. The wisp of cloud is how it appeared, to draw my attention.

This image, in 4:5 crop,, was my November photo on the batch of calendars I published for holiday gifts. I have, subsequently, revisited and re-edited the original, pre-croped image (at 500 magnification) to remove the distractions you brought to my attention. Thank you.
