87 Dec 19 Comment Thanks Lance. I did see it, but chose to evaluate on the basis as if hadn't.

87 Dec 19 Comment Jennifer, I really like this image. Primarily because of the color(s). The subtle pastel shades of pinks and purples really gives it the winter feel. The sense of scale is very well represented with a well placed subject. The undulating landscape with a ribbon of highlight in just the right spot… I do not mind the bits of vegetation as they work within the scene and do not distract. I do agree that the foreground disturbances in the sand can be smoothed out for a more pleasing overall result.

Great Capture!

87 Dec 19 Comment I have taken a number of macro shots of these fascinating creatures. As their name indicates, they mostly remain very still in waiting for their Prey. This gives you plenty of time to compose and get off a shot, or several, if you are focus stacking.

I have engaged with this image for a while and like that it has been processed in B&W, with a metallic like impression. Due to the razor thin DoF you have to work with in macro, I don't believe this image would have had the same interest in color. To my eye, it appears flash at close range was employed, which would throw the background into darkness, while illuminating the focal area. Light painting in a dark environment can produce the same effect.

Kudos to Ahmed for this Silver Dragon.

87 Dec 19 Comment With out the benefit of seeing the original image I can accept and appreciate the makers choice in this presentation. The (re)placement of the moon is a shamelessly acceptable practice in digital manipulation, with the caveat that the image is not presented as documentary. With that said, there are a number of choices of where to put the orb, as supreme being of your personal universe. Although I like the position he chose for balance, I would have been just as impressed if it was left in the original position, with a cropping simular to what Lance suggested. There appears, to me, an illusion of a slight tilting of the horizon, downward to the right. However when I took it into PS to check the X and Y lines, It's spot on. One suggestion I could offer is that, in my experience, at the time of moonrise and concurring sunset, the color and density of the moon is not quite that rich. I belive taking the saturation down a notch and maybe reducing the transparency of that layer a touch would make it a little less dominant in the photo, making it more complementary in a supporting role to the Lighthouse.

Good job, non the less, Steven!

87 Dec 19 Comment How wonderfully Grinchian for the holidays. You could easily put a green overlay on this character and print a holiday card. the symmetry of the composition and DoF is spot on forcing you to engage eye to eye with this grumpy guy. Dec 6th
87 Dec 19 Comment Thank you for your observations and comments. As I was working within the limitations of the device I had with me and didn't have the foresight to include and iPhone adaptor for my tripod I brought for the camera I forgot…
I shot, hand held, at the lowest ISO and speed I could manage to produce a sharp image. I then took the raw image, prior to processing, into Topaz DeNoise AI, to reduce the excess noise and artifacts. I then took it into lightroom for final toning, adjusting curves, highlights and shadows, plus a touch of clarity. There were some dark areas, like the left side of the boats bow that I felt I had reached the limit before those pixels denigrated. One trick, however, I could have employed, is mirror cloning the bow in photoshop.
