Jennifer, At first glance, I thought I saw penguins. I personally like this image in color, which emphasizes the unique cyanish color of glacial ice contrasted with the black and white gulls. I belive you do not need that much head space in the top of the image.By placing your ice island in the upper third, I think would compose the image a bit better. You might try cropping to a 16:9 ratio to see how that looks. Technically, your exposure, tonal range and focus are spot on. |

Hi Graham, not sure if you received my original comments, as they are not posted here. To reiterate from memory, I really like this image. It contains a nice range of tonal values. You might be able to punch it up, slightly with a combination of the clarity and contrast sliders in Lightroom, which will enhance the shine of the chrome, if you intend to print on metallic paper. |

Very lovely shot, Lance. Nice use of shallow focus with f/1.4. The focal fall off gives the image a nice dreamy glow. It appears her right eye and check was in the same focal plane as the infants nose, mouth and fingers. I also like the the subtle de-sat, which contributes to the dream like quality. |
