Lovely photo, Graham. Good composition for symmetry. You did not convey your settings, but it appears you zoomed to compress. Your focus appears constant throughout, indicating a smaller aperture. I can only assume this was handheld with a 1/250+ shutter speed, (rather than standing in the middle of the road with a tripod). The low lighting conditions from a March grey day, under the canopy would necessitate cranking the ISO to compensate. B&W was the perfect decision to make, under these conditions. The approaching vehicle is the necessary element to complete this image. The only thing better, would be to stop the passing car and tell the driver to go park it and have him walk in from the entrance, silhouetted from the back light. Alas, one can only dream of perfect scenarios. The B&W toning, to my eye, is a bit muted and could be be punched up, a bit, to bring out some more detail and contrast |

Great shot, Jennifer. Excellent moment captured from a good perspective and very nicely composed. I am a little on the fence, however, regarding the toning. The creamy tone has its merits. It strikes a balance between mono and chroma. It gives the illusion of desaturation. It is an artistic decision that is yours alone to convey and is fine, as is. I would also like to see this in B&W. With the background pure white and the subject areas toned through several zones from grays to black, would separate the subject from the background. I think it might give this image more impact. |
