87 Apr 19 Comment Hi Jennifer. Nice job. I don't have much to add to this discourse, other than I agree with Lance. The eye is too anchored to the bottom of the frame and could use a little breathing space. In toning, you might try bringing down, just a touch, of highlight around the blown out part of the mane and bumping up the shadow areas around the eye, to increase interest in that area. A little lightroom trick, with the adjustment brush, increase the clarity slider to taste and brush on areas you want to appear glossy, i.e. eyes, water, pavement, etc. you will have to compensate with brightness, using the contrast slider. less will make it a bit brighter, more will make it darker and shinier. 87 Apr 19 Comment Lance. I too would have been tempted to rearrange to satisfy my anal obsession for symmetry. However, you made the right decision. The slight offset and angle of the table engages me. The single tipped chair is the coup de gras. I, probably would have cleaned up the shadow on the lower right, which is a slight distraction to me. 87 Apr 19 Comment Hi Graham. This is an iconic image on many photographers bucket list, along with the Brooklyn Bridge, over the park. I had my crack at it last October. I would like to see a higher res version of your shot, as the image you sent is a postage stamp on my screen. It appears to have been taken in the "blue hour" as there is some residual light in the west.
60 sec is a pretty long exposure, so I am guessing your ISO was at the bottom end and your ap was down around f/16 to 22, as all appears tack sharp.

87 Apr 19 Comment Hi Irene. It's not often I see a photo from Ft Point facing east, with the GG bridge at their back. Nice composition using the sea wall to take us into the city. I did not see your settings, but assuming you were probably in Ap priority, and did not want to sacrifice any speed or ISO due to the low light conditions. Here is where a tripod comes in handy. By stopping your ap down a notch, or two, and putting your focus point a bit closer, would bring your foreground into focus as well. It's difficult to tell it's evening with the bright sky in the B&W conversion. The lack or texture or contour in the sky doesn't give you much to work with in B&W. I believe the original color version has more potential with some targeted toning and adjustments. Apr 6th
87 Apr 19 Comment Thank you all for your kind words and input. I did take some time with this pier taking shots from about 15 different positions. Mostly 30 sec slow shutter for the look I wanted. I have recently posted a few other variations on Instagram @krewemeister. My original intent was to format the image in HD 16:9 ratio. The triptych idea came as an after thought, when I was recently called on to judge a local camera club competition themed on triptychs. I found the one shot from that shoot that was clearly delineated by (nearly) thirds, then filled in the rest. Apr 2nd
