Other that the plastic looking hand I like it. You can see every hair in that mighty fine beard. There is just enough texture in the skin to bring out the age without looking grizzled. Well done. |

Actually, the tilted door is one of the things that drew me to this shot. You can see the photo is level at the building foundation. The slight tilt of the door toward the "arrow" shadow (this was the shadow of a roof drain) adds a discordant element that breaks up what would otherwise be 90 and 45 degree angles.
When I converted this to b&w, I really didn't darken the shadows. I did up the highlights marginally to bring out those bright specs you mentioned. I also opened up the door a bit and increased the texture. |

You know, I looped back around the next day in the morning and evening and the light was never as good. It was all kinda gray. I agree in needs another element in it though. |

I'll have to go back and see why the beam is cut off in this image. The photo I printed has the full beam in it. It may have cut off when I reduced the image size for the site and I didn't notice it.
