We were in Chincoteague in April a few years ago and found an area where some ponies are fenced in an our granddaughters were able to pet them and feed them too. You never know what you will see on the wildlife drives in any park! We saw almost nothing in Blackwater Refuge on the Eastern Shore in November. It is always potluck. BTW, Prime Hook is a nice refuge too. |

Your patience paid off! This shows excellent seeing and planning. Well done. Phone cameras can often come to our rescue. This is a very nice image. |

This looks like a great place to shoot. You were fortunate that the museum was so cooperative. I love the lines and the subject lends itself to monochrome. I added a bit of detail and darkened it a bit. Also, the bright line on the right detracts from the image so I cropped it off. Overall, it is a nice image. |

The Palouse is a beautiful area full of photo ops. The lighting here is wonderful and works well with the shadow areas. The structure in the lower left corner is a bit too close to the edge and I think it would be better if there were more room around it. The color is beautiful and you captured it well. |

Great subject and well caught. The slanted horizon bothers me and hurts the image. Stepher's correction is better.I would like to see more light on the man's face. The people who asked you to photograph the race would not be as "critical" as we are! |

This is a great shot with wonderful lines and shadows. I do think it makes a better monochrome, but there are a lot of things you could do with this image. While a figure might be nice, it make it a very different image. This is all about pattern. A monochrome image with a figure in color could be interesting too. |

I love this! The double lines in the streak are interesting and I don't know how you got that effect. I have done a lot of zooming with lights among other things, but this is better than many of mine. Of course if I had used a tripod, it would have been better. The red really holds this together well. Often too much white hurts, but it is spread out and looks good. My husband has given up thinking my subjects are weird! |

Bill,
I did some research before I posted my image and learned some history. To quote what I found--"Two herds of wild horses make their home on Assateague Island, separated by a fence at the Maryland-Virginia line. These small but sturdy, shaggy horses have adapted to their environment over the years by eating dune and marsh grasses and drinking fresh water from ponds. While they appear tame, they are wild, and Park Rangers urge visitors not to feed or pet them. The Maryland herd is managed by the National Park Service. The Virginia herd is owned by the Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Company. Each year the Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Company purchases a grazing permit from the National Fish & Wildlife Service. This permit allows the Fire Company to maintain a herd of approximately 150 adult ponies on Assateague Island." There are several theories about their origin!
Photography is much better from Chincoteague, but we've been to both islands. |
