Bob,
Do you realize that I need a translation for this? I don;t use PS or any CC. I have enough trouble with what I do use. I have a lot to learn still including how to work my cameras! Film cameras were so much easier, but I prefer digital for sure. I do think it would be good for all of us to give some processing information since we can learn from it. Now it I can figure out the drop method Karen uses...This is a great group.

Tam,
Se my reply below about the rules for travel images. I don't even know how to add to a picture like you did! I can crop the pole out, but then not use it for PT.
Plenty of rules are broken by individuals and exhibitions, but we keep trying. My question is whether it is worth not following rules just to win.

All, I got the word from on high re: Travel images--
"Travel image rules question-no problem with straightening a horizon or cropping. No, you cannot fill in content, but just crop it and keep it with the new dimensions. You can also lighten or darken, or even adjust color, so long as it looks like it did to your eye when you took it. What drives me crazy are all of the super-saturated images we are seeing, especially from Asia. Trouble is, our PSA members are traveling with, and listening to, all these workshop leaders, each trying to out-dazzle the others."
FIAP has different rules but for PSA we must not make changes in the reality based Divisions--travel, nature and PJ. In PID we can do anything. I still don't know all the rules as they apply to "similar image" how does one define that??? |

Lovely setting with great leading lines.I agree the cabin is a bit dark, but my technical skills are low so I did it the easy way--selected the cabin and lightened it. I would love to see this place as it looks like it has lots of photo ops. |

Minimalism at its best! Beautiful color and light. A tiny nitpick--I removed a few of the white dots near the top of the leaf. This makes me want to find time to really learn LR!
I am too far behind in processing. |

Jim hit on the major problem in the picture--the horizon not being level. I straightened it, but then it needs cropping and that would eliminate part of the image. I am not sure whether straighening a horizon is "legal" for photo travel and will have to check. However, filling in areas would not be permitted. So, I think this would be better for PID so there are no issues. At least I learned how to fill with content aware in Elements and that was worthwhile. |

I love it! I, too, have had intentions for trying this kind of thing, but other things get in the way. It is good to have winter projects like this to keep us shooting. I wonder what is coloring the water as it seems to be a brown and green mix. I guess the brown may be from the chair, but what about the green? I love the drop that is coming up as it is so perfectly formed and the splash of red is caught well. I wish this were my shot. |

The light on the face makes the image. I would like to see a bit more detail in the back to tell the story better. Since I have never done any hunting (except for photos), I don't know what could have told the story better. |

You are all right about the telephone pole, but I was thinking of it as photo travel in which case I would have to crop and not remove. I thought that might make it a bit tight on the left, but it looks OK on Bob's version. Thanks for your suggestions. I'll do some cropping and try again. |

This brings back memories of train trips back and forth to college--not Amtrak though; Pennsy, B&O and Milwaukee Road! I think it is over done and the halos are distracting and I get them all too often and don't know how to get rid of them. You didn't say how you processed this but I do love the lines of the tracks and train and the light. I had fun trying different processing and will try to attach them all. I think this would be a great monochrome.
Thank goodness you were NOT on the train when it derailed! |
