You caught the action nicely and the composition is great with the angles you got. I would clone out the 2 leaves on the lower left side or crop it on the left. Karen's version brings out more detail in the head where more light is needed. Well seen and shot. |

Hot Shoppes--we do miss them in the DC area and went often. The one that was closest to us has been at least 5 different restaurants since HS was torn down. Someone should have bought the name and the restaurants! My husband at lunch at one every day while he was working in Crystal City. It was good to see you and am sorry you had to leave early. |

Jim,
I love the effect you used, but don't know what you did. I agree with Bob's suggestions on cropping some background to focus more on the tray and objects on it. It does tell a story. It could fit in a specialized category of nostalgia. Let us know what you did to get the effect. |

Bob, you made a lot of good suggestions that we can all learn from. I would like to see more information on how members processed their images and/or before and after shots. I have benefited from comments here and turned images into acceptances after making suggested changes. Sometimes we just don't look at our own images as critics and we should. |

Beautiful capture, Tam. The color is great and I agree that the house adds a lot. The one yellow shrub in the upper left corner is a bit distracting and I would clone it out. Since it is so close to the edge, it takes me right out of the picture. The diagonal line of the yellow trees is very dynamic and shows really good seeing and composition. |

Great catch, but I agree with the color change some made and think Jim's version shows more detail which is important for nature. However, Tam's version has a nice soft look which might do well in PID. I like the way the deer is framed and the background which is nice and soft. Bob suggestion of cropping out the extra green is a good one. |

Good seeing Bob--I didn't even notice the twigging things! I am used to not cloning because of PJ and Travel. Now I guess I have to learn more about masks in general and luminosity in detail. I have bought classes on processing but never seem to find the time to watch them--especially this year. I like your suggestions. |

You can always make changes in my images and I will never be offended! That is why I am in the group to learn and get ideas. I need to learn better processing for sure. |

People can do so much with their photography and all are personal choices. I don't care if I ever have a picture in a gallery again and don't compete in the club which is worse than PSA with rules etc. I just wanted to give PSA a try and have been surprised and disappointed with results. The same image can get very different scores depending on the judges and their own biases. |

I would follow what Karen and Tam did and then crop out the entire sun as it is so bright that it detracts from the image. I also like the dog on the right side with space to run into as Tam has done. I still haven't learned how to do that! Bob is right, horizons must be straight unless it is an
image where it is correct and I can't think of an example right now. |

I also had to look for the man, but then I am not familiar with "Freddie" (except that I what I called one brother when we were all much younger!). I don't do many composites, but was inspired by the program at the Conference so may try some. I think the man has to be more prominent to be effective. I like the fact that you put your before images in. How do we do that if we want to put a before and after or parts of a composite? A ghost would be a nice touch too:-) |

Jim,
Great minds think alike! The PT Division is working on the trite pictures. Last year an image of 2 swans got an award in Travel! That really made me mad and I sent it to our Director. Two very different images I submitted---one was 3 red metal feet on steps in Prague and one was 9 red pots on a wall in Switzerland I think. I think the judges liked them because they never saw either of them before. You are right, if we like one of our pictures, who cares what a judge says. However, that is what I like about the study groups--good ideas and opinions. Thanks. Judy |

Thanks, Karen. The fog gets in the way of the horizon, but that is what I liked about the scene. We usually don't stop long so I don't take the time that I should. I appreciate your comments.

Jim,
You are right, but then if an image is "exotic", it gets accepted over and over again--camels on the dunes, bulls running through mud etc. Even though we live near the Atlantic, we get closer to the Pacific when we visit our son in CA and I love seeing it. The fog was what drew me to it. I like it as monochrome so may try that. Thanks.
