I don't even bother with club competition anymore. It isn't worth the hassle and they are getting so nit picky about averything it isn't worth my time. I don't like driving at night anyway. At my age, things have to be fun like this group! We have good people who are good photographers. I love my Olympus gear which was about all that was available when I started mirrorless. I just got a LUMIX point and shoot that is nice for snapping photos, but it is complicated in spite of its size. |

You are wise to shoot both vertical and horizontal and decide later. It looks like an interesting place to see and you took the time to be open for other subjects as you were looking for something else. I can see Bob's version (except the jacket should be yellow or red!), but I like it as a horizontal but cropped a bit on the left. I also lightened the person a bit. I wish there was less grass around her, but sometimes we can't have everything! Great color and texture. |

Good for you getting up early as it is very hard for me! The sky is wonderful and really makes the image for me. I agree with Karen that less rock is better since the lighthouse and sky are more important. Well done! |

This certainly does say Venice (or Las Vegas:-) ). The colors are great and go well together. I agree with Bob that the left side is a bit tight, but sometimes you can't avoid things like that.I think a couple of spots are too bright and I darkened them. Maybe there is a little too much water at the bottom. Overall it is a lovely image. |

Bob,
How does one extend the area with Elements? There are times I would like to do that, but of course, it is not permitted in photo travel.

Nice sharp image. I like the fact that it is not symmetrical, but do wish someone (preferably in a red jacket:-)) were on the bridge. I don't think I could get across it! It looks like a very interesting area. |

Thanks for all your comments and suggestions. I have plenty of seals to work on including other images of this one. Of course I could clone out the pole and shadows and use it in PID where it is allowed! I think for nature, the subject is more important than the technical aspects, but then that is my weakest area! |

I like your idea of framing with foliage and the image is nice and sharp with good color and detail. I would not know what it was without your explanation. Some would say it is a picture of someone's art. It looks like a hard spot to get to if totally surrounded by water. A person in the image might add more interest. The highlights do distract as does the lower left corner. I made some quick corrections. Re: travel I am not sure about borders but I don't ever do them and think small ones may be allowed. You have to read the definition for any exhibition. The definition is on the study group page of the PTD. |

This looks like an interesting place to photograph. There are multiple details that could make interesting images. The bright windows does detract and I tried darkening it and the entire image, but I am no techie so did it the easy way by selection and lowering the brightness.
I am not sure how this would do as street photography which doesn't really have to be done on a street, but it looks more like a field trip or tourist stop to me. A member of my club has been taking pictures from local Starbucks and has gotten some interesting images. It takes courage to get out and photograph strangers, especially with the wide angle lenses some street shooters use! |

Re: street photography it is in the news a lot these days and I would think much of it would go in PJ probably better than PID depending on subject. If you don't already, I recommend Valerie Jardin's podcost "Hit the Streets with Valerie Jardin". She is French, but lives in Minneapolis and does a lot of street shooting and interviews other photographers who do too. Before she started her own podcost she had a podcast with TWIP called Street Focus and I am sure those are still available. There are tons of podcasts on photography and I find them interesting and helpful. |
