Hi Karen - You are not crazy. I just included another image that I took of gargoyles from that same trip as a point of reference to how different they can be and how prevalent they are . . . at least in London. As for the crop, my original has more room to expand. I felt by not cropping tightly, there would be too much wall resulting in too much dead space on the right side. That said, I can see how adding to the bottom and right of the gargoyle might be helpful. Thanks - |

I've included a picture of Emmett. Funny you should mention their being uniquely grotesque. I've learned recently that they are called a Grotesque (rather than a gargoyle) if they don't have a purpose other than to be purely ornamental. Emmett has done a great job of guarding the house; we think of him as a gargoyle :) Thanks for your input! |

Hi Greg - My husband finds gargoyles interesting as well. So much so, that we have one (albeit a bit cuter to my mind) named Emmett, that resides on our back deck. Thanks for sharing your thinking - |

Hi Karen - Nice job in post removing those distracting elements from the original. Good on you for seeing past those things to see the beauty in the colors and composition. I think the couple in the canoe (and a red one no less) came along at the right time and is just the element that was needed to make the image just that much more interesting. I like that they've spotted you and are looking your way. The image tells a nice story. Thanks for sharing. |

Hi Ingrid - Nice capture! I think you've handled the sky nicely. The composition and colors of boxcars and caboose (?) offset the 191 engine beautifully. I'm of two minds about the boxcar on the right - I wish I could see a bit more of it. However, the richness in the color compliments the black of the engine so nicely and balances the image visually. I agree with Tom's and Greg's comments on the power lines . . . Photoshop's process for removal of lines is super easy these days with little to no artifact or residual issues. Museums like this are usually so tight that it's hard to get nice landscape shot - good job! |

Hi Greg - Your rapport with those you photograph really show in the relaxed expression achieved in this image. The lighting, tact sharp focus, handling of the darks as well as positioning of your subject are all very well done. A slight concern is that Joe's hands stand out due to the image's strong contrast resulting in the viewer's focus being pulled from attention to the face and eyes. That said, his hands are relaxed and inject some personality into the image too. A really beautifully done portrait overall. I can see why Joe's wife was so thrilled with the final product. |

Hi Kamal - A really nice composition and the colors of the boat offset by the river, provides a nice contrast. The nets, being white, are almost lost in the river's reflection which is a bit of a distraction. I think Tom is on to something with his suggestion. Your aerial shots always provide an interesting perspective which make the image. |

Hi Tom - This is a lovely, artsy image. It has a nice WOW factor. Great lighting, nice color, the egret's eye is clear and in focus. While the background is nicely separated from the egret, there is a similar softened feel throughout the image that gives it a graceful and ethereal quality without any loss of detail in the feathers. Great capture; beautiful job in post! No suggestions. |

Hi Tom - Thanks for demonstrating your suggestion of separating the main subject from the background. Nicely done - I think it makes a big difference. |

Hi Erin - What a great capture! I love the all around, stop action, the crowd's reaction and the players focus on that puck . . . really nice impact and a good story. I agree with Tom's comments. The only thing I might suggest is cropping to a 5:4 aspect ratio by taking some off the right side to that first window divider - there is nothing of interest there - I think that would still give those players the space they need to move that direction. One of my favorites of those you've submitted. Nicely done! |
