Wow - A great job bringing out details. I was attracted to the image by the outlines created by the rigging, wind generator, jib/mast, hull . . . etc. against the water. Apparently my coming from a land-locked state is showing through on this image. Thanks for sharing your processing efforts and providing your input for improvement. |

Karen - your suggestions and cropping have made all the difference. I don't think that any intensity has been lost, the strong pose and direct gaze remain making for a very powerful image. Such a simple solution too! |

As I mentioned above, my coming from a land-locked state is showing through in this image as the lack of detail beyond what's provided clearly didn't bother me initially. That said, as there is near unanimous support, I will take everyone's input to heart and will work on the detail and see what I can do. Wish I could have done more with the sailboat's reflection. Unfortunately, I didn't capture anything more of the reflection than what you see. Thanks, Karen |

I'll work on trying to recover more detail. Also good eye and input on darkening the highest light strip. I appreciate your feedback and input. |

Hi Syed - I am a fan of your arial abstracts. The water is a bit blown out in the upper right corner. If it were mine, I would have cropped the upper river bank out leaving only water on that side and keeping the river bank on the bottom to provide some weight to the image. Doing so would also remedy that bright spot. I do like that the nets being in a circular pattern bring my eye back to the boat. Question - What kind of barrier is it holding the water from the beach? and Is there a particular fish they are after? Just curious - |

Hi Tom - My first thought without reading your thinking on the image, was that the dehaze slider in lightroom might be a help. After reading your description, I still think a little bit of that would help - perhaps even diminish some of the ghosting. Otherwise I really like the composition and the capture of the horse and rider in mid-prance in the early morning light makes for a really a nice capture. |

I agree that a vignette would add some interest. Thanks for your input. |

Hi Greg - This guy seems genuine and thoroughly enjoying your attention - you have a knack of capturing that in your portraits. All the colors seem a bit overwhelming to my eye. That said though, they really add to that island life 'feeling'. I don't mind the vendor's placement, but the composition of the partially visible mannequins are a bit distracting so just adding a bit more to the width would have made for a better composition. Hope you enjoyed the trip as much as he enjoyed having you take his picture :) |

Hi Karen - A really nice image especially with such a reluctant subject. The use of props that were important to him was brilliant. I like the angle of the shot which adds more sky and gives more prominence to Carter. Your depth of field also helped in this regard. I only wish that the sky wasn't lack-luster . . . better than the original though. The lighting on Carter's face needs some tweaking as well. On a side note, I think I see a dragonfly or some such bug just under the bridge and to the upper left from Carter's elbow - made me smile. |

Hi Ingrid - An interesting architectural image. The shadows created by the lighting grab my attention and are quite appealing. Nice capture! |

Hi Xiao - I think your post processing is spot on. My eye is drawn to the white on the wall and then to the shadows created by the model's arms creating distraction from the overall image. Kind regards - |

Hi Xiao - I appreciate your providing your perspective. You are right in that I do like to focus in on a subject. For this particular photo though, I liked the empty space created by the water as it conveys the environment's vastness - or at least provides that impression. I thought this image might make a good candidate for a B&W because the details of the boat weren't totally lost in the black and it was a fairly monochrome image to start with. It wasn't much of a leap to B&W. Perhaps this is more of a silhouette? |
