Hi Syed - I'm a bit late in weighing in so all that I might add have been addressed. Straightening the image is the major concern; anything else is minor. A really nice long exposure capture. |

Greg - I find it a big help and quite interesting to learn about what works for different photographers. Not surprisingly, I'm finding it really is dictated by the situation, the intended use of the photograph and/or the photographer's comfort level and 'style'. Thanks for sharing . . . by the way, is she the subject of the tatoo? |

Do you generally just ask for permission or do you have them sign a release as well? |

Hi Quang - I absolutely love water shots - this one is no different. Your capture of such beautiful colors in the ocean as it recedes to the horizon juxtaposed against the sky is lovely. You couldn't have gotten a brighter/whiter focal point. To Xiao's point, the horizon is almost at the mid point of the image. By removing a bit of sky from the top (or some ocean from the bottom, I suppose) you could play into the rule of 3rds that is already working for you and create something even more interesting to my mind. A minor issue - I can't decide if the white dots of other boats are a distraction . . . maybe so as I keep going back to them. Overall - a very nice image. |

Hi Greg - You picked a great couple for a staged photo - it doesn't look that way at all. You captured a natural looking interaction that feels authentic and tells a nice story. I agree with your decision to brighten up the image a bit as well as your thinking that the painting filter isn't working - at least not on people. I do think it helps blur the background of distraction though. The photo colors of pinks of the woman's dress offset by the blue's of the furniture and even the dots of orange work well as they have the same intensity/luminosity. I like street photography and I look forward to seeing more of your images. |

Hi Tom - I would have never guessed this image was taken in broad daylight! I like that you made the conversion to black and white - it enhances the impact. The lights draw my attention toward the entrance to the building and then the engraving of the building's purpose above - so I agree with your choices to leave those in. Your other internal debate about leaving the trees in silhouette and keep the focus on the building was a good choice as well. How you chose to process images from month to month is always interesting to me. I believe that lightening the image a bit would address concerns brought out by Greg and Xiao. In doing this you'll sacrifice a little contrast but gain some depth where things are too dark. A lovely architectural image and I imagine quite a conversion from the original! Good job - |

Hi Xiao - I like your composition and your success in cleaning up and darkening the reflection that creates the background for this image. I agree with Greg and Tom regarding over-saturation of colors related to the model's skin and clothing. Consider toning those things down just a bit and I believe the impact of the image will have the feel described by the image's title. |

Thanks Greg - I looked back at Dick's comments through last December. You are right - he seems to be quite knowledgeable about macro/close up botanical photography. Some of it makes my head spin just a bit :) It's wonderful he is willing to share his skills/experience in such detail. I'll be paying attention going forward. Best - |

That is an interesting solution and I like the outcome. I would not have thought to use the lasso tool. I'll give it a try and see if I can get similar results. Thanks - |

Hi Xiao - I believe that Greg's comment about using a radial filter would be helpful in resolving the issue of where one's eye may find a point to rest. I appreciate your commenting. Best - |
