Great color of the water which contrasts nicely to the black/white of the bird and its reflection creating a pleasing harmony in this image. I would have liked more sharpness in the center of interest and more water in front of the where the kingfisher was flying and less behind it. You caught the bird in good form . . . I love it when birds almost touch the water in flight. |

Xiao - Congratulations on challenging yourself in a new area of photography! As a high key photo, it appears that the light ratio balance is off just a bit - it needs more contrast than what is currently showing. If product photography would allow it, I agree with Greg as I find the black background has more impact, especially since you can't rely on elements such as composition or creativity for assistance in elevating the image. Thanks for commenting Andrew. Had the image been better to start with I might have spent more time in post-processing. I appreciate the insights and observations to let me know your thoughts on how to make this a better photograph. |

What a great exercise! Composition is one of those elements of a photograph that seem so easy but yet really does takes some practice. I love it when I have a well composed shot out of the camera . . . doesn't happen as often as I would like. Best - |

In my mind, it all depends on the purpose of the photograph. For example, I could see this image on the cover of a publication supporting your volunteer efforts. If that were so, it would be beneficial to have that extra space available to allow for printing. BTW - congratulations on your dedicated support to such a worthy endeavor. |

Arun - An interesting grab shot and story with the old sandwiched between the new architecture on either side. I might of cropped to just above or into the window beam at the bottom, but that's minor. The image is sharp and centering the main subject works. |

Tom - This a beautiful image - tells a good story - showing the power of this athlete, it's sharp and has great colors. I particularly like the angle of the shot to capture Rheed's full face. I tend to like to crop tightly, so would have cropped out past the vertical post to alleviate a bit of dead space on the upper left which still would have allowed you to use the track to tell a story and to lead the viewer's eye. |

Greg - Your image has a nice impact. The composition and center of interest are both strong. I too don't mind the dark hole the pigeon is sitting in but I do understand where Tom is coming from in his thinking. In this case, I believe it holds the viewer in the image. Lighting, color balance and texture of the environment all enhance the photo. Well done! |

Arun - See my response to Tom above. I agree that the image is a bit grey and your adjustments with contrast help resolve that concern. It is such an easy fix too. Guess I should have played in post processing a bit more! Thanks - |

Thanks Tom - As I recall, because conditions weren't optimal, I focused on practicing panning and stop action skills. I agree though that just a little propeller action would have made a big difference. Arun agreed with you regarding cabin detail - see below. His efforts with contrast brought out some of the detail. |
