Hi Cindy, You did a great job of capturing this beautiful little bird! You really caught the texture and detail of the feathers. I see what Will means about the leaf in the background. In my camera club it would be against the rules to enter an altered photo in the nature category, but it could be removed and entered in the pictorial category where there is a lot more latitude. I think it works either way. |

Hi Will, The color and detail in your leaves are very striking. What a novel idea to use a lightbox and then darken the background! It gives the leaves a glowing look. After reading your description of your process I studied the image again and noticed the darker areas where the leaves intersect with each other - not what the eye would expect from natural lighting. I think that might be what gives the image an air of difference |

Hi Dale, What a creative, deceptively simple idea for a still life! I like how you handled the lighting to create interesting shadows on the eggs, and the diagonal placement as well as the the unfilled spaces add a sort of asymmetrical symmetry to the image! |

Hi Steven, I've never been to the Garden of the Gods and now I really want to see it! The monochrome works very well, and the sky replacement is extremely natural looking. It's interesting that you see one god-like entity and many disciples - I see it as many gods of varying sizes and spheres of influence. I must be a pagan at heart!
You seem to have gotten a lot of good images at the PSA gathering. I am going to their international gathering in India at the end of this month and I hope it will be as good as the one in Colorado! |

Hi Chan! I'm so glad you included the color version of your image - it really made me appreciate how B&W can abstract and enhance an image. I appreciated the textures and tones so much more in the monochrome image. |

Hi Lance, I like the the blue monochrome - very appropriate for ice. I would love to see a closer view of the lacy looking part of the ice. It's so interesting to see how ice can form in so many shapes. I do feel a strong pull to the left side of the image due to its more distinct shape. |

Thank you Chan! I appreciate your comments. The sculpture actually was pretty massive, but I did have the camera pretty low, although not on the ground. |

Hi Cindy,
This display was in a sculpture garden and the timbers are part of a sculpture. I don't remember if the thing covered in blue lights was another timber or something else. I did not wait until total darkness, mostly because I didn't want to drive home in the dark. Perhaps I would have been more impressed without Mother Nature competing with the lights, but I was mostly focused on nature while I was there. I'm attaching another image to give you an idea of where my mind was that evening! |
