Thank you Dale. I have a love/hate relationship with busy scenes. Perhaps if I learn how to handle them better I will get more successful images. I feel like I still have so much to learn. |

Yes, I was standing above, and this may have distorted the perspective. |

Thanks, Lance. Your comment about visual confusion struck a chord with me. I seem to have to learn over and over again that the 2 dimensional photograph does much better with a simple scene where elements can be separated from each other. It really helps to have people who were not there comment on the photo - I just see it as I remember it, not as it appears in the photo. |

Hi Chan, and thanks for your comments. I can see how the image can be confusing. The rack was probably 8 feet tall and the ladder may have been meant to reach the higher drying lines. It was a real ladder, not a toy. And the object above the rack is actually a tank near the blue building - I didn't do a very good job of separating them. I think that the perspective is somewhat distorted due to the little hill I was standing on when I took the photo. I still have difficulty figuring out how things are going to look in a flat photo. |

I'm going to have to go back and see what I did to this image. I don't recall doing much processing at all. I didn't use HDR, but I do remember lightening the shadows in the foreground. I will have to check the clarity and sharpening - thanks for pointing that out. |

Thank you Cindy! It felt a little strange wandering around the deserted village. I wish we could have stayed until the boats returned, but then again, the fisher people might not have enjoyed being a tourist attraction. |

Thanks Steven! It was a very interesting trip and I would like to go back. As I recall, I cropped the image to get rid of stuff that was even more busy and distracting. |

I love your use of shallow depth of field! What a beautiful portrait. I hope this is hanging on Ashley's wall and yours, too! |

A still life in motion! You handled the light very well, from the shadows to the reflections, and the monochrome treatment enhances this. The whole scene invokes an early morning ritual feel - much more emotional impact than a typical still life. I agree with Lance and others that the salt shaker could be replaced with something else - maybe a spoon to keep it simple? |

I think you did a great job separating the owl. And i especially like that the branch behind its head is right in line with its eves! Also great catch light in the eyes. very nice in B&W. |

What a fun photo of your grandson! And how sweet that your DIL enlarged and hung your photos! Steven, Will and Chan made good suggestions to improve an already very nice shot. Our group is great at suggestions to improve and I learn a lot not just about my photos, but from the photos of others.
Happy holidays! |
