My meeting is a competition, and I hate to miss those. I will try to zoom back and forth while other levels are being judged! |

Yes, a Natural Habitat photography tour. Horribly expensive, but I don't have that many travel years left and I love trips like that so much. |

I love your rose, and I resonate with your comments about falling in love with one's images. And with the way a judge's comments can deflate some of that love. But it is a way to learn. Sometimes I have images I love so much that I don't enter them in competition, but that means I can hold onto my feeling at the expense of learning something new. A dilemma. |

A beautiful capture of a magical moment. Your focus and depth of field are very good. I agree that it might be fun to go back and try to perfect it, but it probably wouldn't have the same meaning to you as this more spontaneous shot. |

Hi Steven,
What a regal looking lion! And the light is phenomenal, as others have mentioned. The B&W works very well, something I wouldn't have expected. It's interesting that you have so many favorites from close to home. Most of mine are from the two trips I managed to do in 2021. I need to work on finding beauty close by and not just wait till I'm on a trip to pick up my camera. |

Hi Chan,
I really like your portrait of Dale! I agree with the comments about the bright window, and it could be darkened, but I don't think it's a major problem. I especially love how relaxed and natural Dale looks! Great job! |

Hi Lance,
This is very interesting! Japanese aesthetic really appeals to me, and I like the idea that presentation is just as important as the image. I think I will add Japanese art to my list of things I'd like to delve into this year! I like the light and shadow effect, but (tiny detail) would like it even more if the wooden floor boards were truly horizontal rather than just slightly off. I wish I could tune in to your presentation to Contra Costa, but my club meets that same evening. |

This was in Churchill, Manitoba, on the Hudson Bay. It was a great trip, worth the two year wait due to Covid!

Thanks, Steven! These bears have been more or less fasting since July, when they came off the sea ice. They aren't well adapted to hunting on land. They live off stored fat and mostly chew on grasses and seaweed to have something in their stomaches while they wait for the ice to return. That is seaweed between his paws. |
