Thank you Dale! I have been working on getting the branches out of my photo - I think I need to learn more patience! I originally left them in for the reason you mentioned, but the focus is too much of a problem. Next time I go to the Olympic Peninsula I will try again. |

Thanks Lance! That's two votes against the branches - my original thought was that they took up some of the space of open water, but being a distraction outweighs that. I will work on the color cast. |

I see what you mean about the spit getting lighter! Lots to do with this image, but it will be fun! |

Thank you, Chan! I hadn't noticed the bush - so nice to have other eyes on the image to see things that I miss. I appreciate your kind words. |

P.S. Just looked at your "before" - Chicago should consider painting that railing black - the red is jarring! |

Hi Dale,
I have to totally agree with both Steven and Lance. I did notice the brown tones of the wood, but thought it was due to use of sepia. Steven's explanation makes much more sense. I have to agree with Lance in preferring your version. The whole scene has that expectant, night-before-Christmas feel! |

Hi Steven,
You are a master of monochrome, wide angle, perfectly toned and focused images! And you make Chicago look like a fairytale city. I remember your explanation of your focusing technique from another of your Chicago shots - where did you have to focus to get this one so uniformly sharp? Wonderful juxtaposition of the drawbridge and the skyscrapers, and the ornate railings make wonderful leading lines, especially the one on the left that leads right to the tallest building. |

Hi Chan! Very Florida! Wild and secretive, calm, but a little scary. Very nice image. |

Hi Lance,
I like this image a lot - I sort of identify with that leaf, a bit worse for wear, but hanging in there. And the tall trees in the background, nicely blurred but identifiable, do a great job of putting the leaf in proper context. Interesting reasoning for using a higher ISO than required to get the grainy look. A very philosophical image! |

Hi Steven!
I really appreciate your suggestions! The 16:9 ratio makes perfect sense, and I agree that the sky isn't particularly interesting. As for the branch, it looked like a lot of work, but you made it disappear nicely! I'm not quite sure what you mean by using the light - are you suggesting lightening the sky in the upper right? interesting idea. You have given me a lot to think about! |
