Another beauty! This one looks great in color. Probably would look great in BW also. Love your portraits! |

Thanks, Chan! I wish this scene were one I could go back to and try different camera angles and compositions. I think you are right that it would have been better to have more of the footprints. I need to think more about composing in-camera. |

Thank you, Lance! It mans a lot coming from a BW master. I do want to print it as soon as my local printer guy opens up. |

Thank you, Steven! I appreciate your kind comments and the work you put into helping me improve the image. I have about 6 versions of this photo on my computer, but I think it is still a work in progress. I like what you did with toning down the foam in the upper right, but the higher contrast in the foamy area, for me, makes the image too busy and kind of detracts from the horse and woman. I was trying for a high key effect to simplify the background. I'm going to try a version with the foam strip toned down. And I like your alternate title! I think I may still have time to go in and change it before my club's competition next week. Much appreciation! |

Hi Graham! Beautiful scene - I'm amazed that there is such good clarity with a 73 second exposure. I have to agree with Lance about my preference for the original. I think it has a dreamy, misty look to it already and perhaps didn't really need extensive post processing. The bright area in the foreground would still need to be toned down, but the reflections and the clarity of the water are quite good in the original. |

Hi Dale! The symmetry really is pretty amazing! Three sets of three - how much more perfect can you get? I like that you photographed them pre-bloom, a more unusual take on flower photography, and perfect for what you were trying to emphasize. Your wife must love that she can enjoy her flowers all year long! |

Beautiful image, Steven! I love the golden edge lighting on the bird and the warm color of the water. And you caught the gull with it's wings in such a graceful position! The way the near wing stretches toward us, while the far wing provides a contrast with the bird's head, is amazing. Definitely worth it to wake up so early and get out there! This is an image I would never consider for BW - the color is just too luscious, but maybe I'll get there some day. |

Hi Chan! I can see why this tree called to you. I think your decision to crop was a good one - having the tree off center allows us to pay a bit more attention to the lovely background. I did wonder about cropping off some of the left, rather than the right, to let us see some of the interesting reflections over there. Always more than one picture in a picture! But I do really like the one you created. |

I really like this, Lance! A simple composition, yet wonderful detail, and with the palm trees and what looks like cypress, it truly evokes Florida to me. I very often like color better than black and white, but in this case I like the monochrome a lot more. I think I'm starting to understand that color can be distracting and that monochrome helps bring attention to the form and tonal variation of many scenes. I am curious about your custom silver-copper toning. Were you able to create it yourself in Silver Effects Pro? Would you be willing to let us in on how we might do something like that? |
