No moss - just the wearing away of the white wash. I also enjoy selective color, but would have had to invent it in this image! |

Hi Graham!
Lovely image - really looks isolated and peaceful. I've never seen white Canada geese - could they be swans? Beautiful, no matter what they are. I love the subdued, misty color - did you de-saturate a bit to get it?
I would be interested to see a version with the partial tree on the right cropped out and enough of the bottom cropped to maintain your aspect ratio. |

HI Dale, and welcome!
As others have mentioned, the lighting really adds a special feeling to the image. The flowers look wild and real and the whole effect is one of late spring lushness and energy.
While swans would have been nice, you were open to all the possibilities of the location.

Hi Chan,
I love the cypress knees in this image! they have a wild look to them which is one reason I like the crop that Lance made. Without the lawn in the background one can imagine this is a view in a swamp. It also makes the horizon line look more level. Sometimes even when I know my camera was level, I rotate the image enough to make it look more level to the viewer. I'm not sure that is the right thing to do, since Lance can recognize that it was level without that. But most viewers aren't as experienced as Lance. I think you will have fun returning to this area and playing with all the possibilities! |

Hi Lance,
I really like both images. The rain (or sprinkler water) is a wonderful touch on the first flower and I like the dreamy feel of the whole image. The tulip is very lovely and looks unexpectedly beautiful in monochrome. It appears to glow! I notice the same effect on your Angel Trumpet - it makes both images really stand out. |

Thanks Chan. Good suggestion! I will work on contrast and perhaps consider sepia as an alternative to straight black and white. I appreciate all the suggestion group members have made. |

Silver Effects Pro is a plugin that has a lot of B&W presets which can then be tweaked further either in the plug in or back in Lightroom or both.
I'm always afraid to go too heavy on the contrast for fear of looking fake, but your attempt does look good. Perhaps because I edit on a fairly large screen things look more textured and detailed. It would probably be better if I edit at the size it will be when displayed. I will try that in the future. I appreciate your comments! |

Hi Steven!
I really like this one a lot. Your selective focus takes the viewer right to the important part of the photo - very emotional and instantly identifiable. The only thing I might do is crop a little off the very bottom, the first white square, because it is a little distracting, but maybe the longer leading line leading to the king is a good thing. Just a thought. |
