Graham: Thanks for your comments and especially the suggestion about the lower left! I will try a version with that cloned out. I am not too experienced with cloning, but it will be a good learning experience and now I am curious to see if it will improve the image! |

Mike: Thanks for your thoughtful comments! It turns out that split toning is actually a middle ground between mono and chroma. When I tried to enter it into a monochrome competition I was told it had yellows and greens in it and was thus disqualified. In lightroom I was trying various black and white presets (which included split toning) and made several versions. I asked my husband for his opinion and he very strongly preferred the split tone version. I was on the fence because I think it looked good in black and white, but the novelty of the split toning and the vote from my husband carried the day. |

Thanks for posting the original! I can see why you chose monochrome and agree that it was a good decision. I agree with Graham about punching it up a bit. Actually the same goes for my image. My monitor seems to show my images as more saturated and contrasty than they really are. Someone told me to lower the brightness on the monitor to get a more realistic idea of what it will look like to others, but I haven't been able to find a brightness control. Anyway, I think you achieved your goal of a dark and mysterious look! Very beautiful image. |

The car really gives a sense of the size of these oaks! and the light on the hanging moss(?) really breaks up the darkness, although the overall image is still pretty dark. I really like the image, but would be curious to see the original, as even slight differences in color might give the image more depth. Or perhaps experimenting with the contrast might liven things up a bit. |

I was in shutter priority, standing behind and beneath her. I was photographing some children on the other side of the ride when I noticed she was leaning back every time she bounced up high. I was lucky. |

I haven't been to NYC in a while, so haven't seen "the vessel" in person, but now I have one more reason to get back there! I love the science fiction feel of the image - appropriate to see it today, Star Wars Day. It reminds me a bit of the death star. I really like the composition and I am very impressed by the capabilities of the iPhone. The scattered people give a great sense of scale, and the central purple color and the balcony edges add a simplifying effect to a complex image. Very well done, and may the Fourth be with you! |

I really love this one! It's amazing to me the difference using film makes. Not that I would give up digital, but the texture and the contrast is just beautiful. The composition is very interesting and I found my eyes roaming around the whole frame. I did feel that the framing was a bit tight and would have liked some more room at the bottom and the left side, but overall a beautiful image. |
