Wonderful image. I love the complementary colors making the owl stand out. I think using the high shutter speed with the large lens helped with the sharpness. Did you use a tripod? |

Thanks Mike for the good advice. I will try your suggestions. I love taking closeups of flowers, but have a difficult time with the focus. |

Hi Jennifer,
I also have a lot of trouble using the 90mm macro. It seems to be very touchy, but everyone swears it is a perfect lens. I guess like you, I need to work with it more.
I think it is probably best to use it on a tripod, but I hate them, and you can't always use a tripod, like at the orchid show. |

You did a great job cropping your image. I love the seagull.
I was recently in Santa Cruz, and took the tour to see the Harbor seals. They were very active and noisy. It is not easy to get a good image of them, but you captured their life style of laying on the beach.
I do agree, a little more of the beach and their surroundings would be informative. |

I like the color image better than the monochromatic, The ice stands out more, and in my opinion is the main attraction of the image. I love closeups and color as you will soon find out. I see this as a desirable greeting card around Winter or Christmas time. |

Hi Lance,
I agree, I like the blue tone. It Helps make the image very dramatic, along with the offset V angle of the water, mountains, and cloudy sky, which gives it good depth of field. It makes me feel like I'm in the back of a boat speeding down the river.
I would like to see an actor, like a bird or boat. I think it would add a little more interest. |
